Re: Howa Mini
Hey Camel unfortunately the gunsmithimg gods picked up the Dremel yesterday and the Howa now sits snugly in the Boyds thumbhole. Will strip the paint off tonite and get it ready to have mag fitted later this week, might even be a range session on the weekend.

Re: Howa Mini

more of a photo opportunity for the howa mini over the weekend, no targets wounded at this stage, minor issue with some reloads so only a sinle round fired.
Thanks Adam for helping with the inletting and bedding, the thumbhole stock works a treat.

Re: Howa Mini
Thanks Fenring, I suspect cool is an understatement !!
Even thou the thumbhole is a bit short on the LOP it just works, hopefully Boyds will get to work on a bunch of stocks for these.
Everyone who handled it was suprised at tye fit!!
Even thou we are heading into a recession i suspect these in 204 and 223 will end up being best sellers in Oz
And Howa .... hurry up and release the 6.5.Grendel..... please !

Re: Howa Mini
A photo from this afternoon, Howa Mini alongside a m85 (yes it's in lefthand). There is nothing in them for overall length of action, the Howa has a smaller bolt shroud and a longer magazine box cutout (by a couple of mm).

Re: Howa Mini
cool pic Adam, really does highlight what Howa have achieved here with their new small action, obviously you cant compare action weights but whats your gut feeling ?

Re: Howa Mini
The little M85 actions are quite heavy for their size. Must be the all steel construction.
IMHO the Howa is lighter. The action wall is thinner, below the stockline is trimmer and the bolt is thicker (but more hollow). Really cannot say without whipping the barrel off and I'm not going to do that as I suspect it is the usual Howa 'Gorilla' tight.

Re: Howa Mini
Then again you could just go to a barrel makers site that will calculate the barrel weight for you (as long as you know how to measure) and subtract that off the total
Re: Howa Mini
That Zastava is mine, all I can say is that I'm really disappointed that Howa haven't made a left hand one yet, it's like comparing a Yugo to a new Toyota.
It's completely scaled down from the 1500, smaller bolt diameter as well, 5mm action screws and I'm guessing a 22mm barrel thread given the scale of the rest. The bonus is that the mags will fit my Zastava with minimal machining.
