Ah yes, but only to a limited extent - the bigger .22's just give much more of a good thing mate

With all this velocity... how much deader than dead can something be?

A rabbit hit with 4000fps and a rabbit hit with 3500fps still ends in the same result.

If I were going to pick a high velocity FACTORY rifle then a 204 would be my choice.

on the subject of the 22 Middlestead, the bloke who did the 'smithing on the 416AS runs a slightly shortened variation and swears by it; even pushes 90grain MKs out of his 1:8" barrel at over 3400, he tells me..., and witha slower twist will break 4300 with 55s...
interesting...

Whilst I'm sure those velocities are possible in the Middlestead I doubt that case or barrel life would be very long . I had a .243 Ackley and could not load 87gn projectiles to more than about 3400 FPS . 55 grainers could be pushed to over 4200 FPS in my rifle .
Got to remember those velocities are much easier to achieve in a bore that is 20 thou larger .

A bit of info on the Accurate Reloading site....

It is owned and funded by Saeed al Maktoum who is a member of the royal family of Dhubai. His brother is a current Olympic champion in one of the trap events. The site is hosted in the U.S. and the Administrator is a bloke called Don something. (for interest, he is Jewish, which simply proves that rational people, Jews & Muslims alike, can get on together and work together, if they want too.....)

The underground range and the .577 tyrannosaur are both the brain children of Saeed so we can also thank him for a lot of fun internet moments watching people try and shoot the thing without landing on the floor.

To my way of thinking, the faster the projectile's velocity is the flatter it's trajectory is going to be.

Varminting, after all, is shooting pests at a great distance. The further you are away from the animal the better. It's a competition within itself!!

Speed is a big factor here. Faster the better.

Knocking over crows or rabbits at 350 metres plus is just plain good fun!

It's not a bad feeling whacking a fox between the eyes at those distances too. And let me add, it's a better feeling when you build the rifle yourself.
