I really wouldn't call belting me over the head with a 20 cal barrel, and around a hundred emails giving me with a sharp stick, gentle. But it worked I spose.
Did I tell you that I have a Lilja 17 barrel, 17/222 reamer on the way, and a donor action sitting in the safe. Smith doing the job reckons the reamer is in the air on its way now. Then after this one and the next one are done, I will be just like you, too old and broke to do any more builds.

Each to their own, but I reckon the whole scout concept look like shit. I have a particular dislike to removable magazines, especially long 10 shot ones that hang down so far under the action. They look to me like rifles for the wanna be tactards,

As for Scout rifle concept of shorter overall length without the compromise of shorter barrel, realistically the only option is a single shot platform be it break action of falling block? Have a look at the likes of No. 1's and Bergara/CVA Scout, plus the euro offerings?

Short overall length, fast handling plus a good rifle

I must admit to not reading your original post very well. The ONLY reason to have one of these is close range hunting.

If I was going close range scrub hunting I would buy a 44magnum or 30/30 lever. In fact I did. Only problem, no scrub hunting.

other choice would be a CZ 527 in 7.62x39. There are a few devotees on AHN and Accurate Calibre's rifle sure looks the goods.
