How are you going to get the 527 centerfire action converted to feed, let along fire these rimfire rounds, and if it didnt work out how would you then convert it back to centerfire. While it sounds good in theory, Im not too sure about that.
But hey, it might work out. Personally because I already have my HMR Id go straight to the HH, if I was to build another 17.

Camel,

Brain storming atm as I don't have the external dimesions of the 17wsm yet but it appears to be fairly close with the exception that the 17HH is .200" longer in the case length. Its quite possible that the 17wsm could feed in a hornet action... may be dreaming. Converting a CZ527 bolt to rimfire is something I not sure on as I don't know what they look like inside.

in regards to the bolt maybe the Ruger 17/77 or the hornet action could work for this...

Like i said, brain storming. Its what i do.

cheers

No dramas bloke, was just wondering if someone had come up with someway of doing it, then there would be lots jumping on the wagon, these days it doesnt seem to take long for new ideas and means of doing stuff like that to appear and get around. I do a lot of brainstorming, but I call it wishful thinking these days for me any way. There are just too many good cartridges/calibers and rifles out there, but thats what makes it interesting, I spose. 8)

not the 17 action- the magazine would be too short surely, it would have to be the hornet action?

The rimfire is a good idea for the states, as I understand most people over there don't actually reload for their rifles.

Bout time more attention was paid to varmint calibres: most of the new cartridges the last decade have been medium bores, an already saturated segment

yeah you would have to use the hornet action for it.

as for my heavily saturated calibre segment. nothing in my safe is over .224 except for a 308, my 12gauge and my handgun... that makes for a lot of guns just for shooting rabbits

Well where i shoot there are stuff all rabbits . It's more hare's , foxes , the odd cat & odd dog . Goats are always around & well as the smaller piggies . So 17 cal doesn't do anything for me . I really wanted a 22 mag but have never seen one that shoots 5 shot groups real well . They seem to be hit & miss . My mate has brought a few home from his shop & we tryed a lot of ammo with out much luck . A 17hmr may group better at the range for head shooting . But for walking about where the grass is high & the wind is always blowing i'd feel under gunned . I just bought a 204 that i'll load back abit using 40gr bullets . I'd get a 20 rimfire magnum because of more bullet weight & better bc . My 2 cents worth .
