Which one? 204,223,22-250

Had a 204 was great on rabbits, sold it and have gone back to a 243Win, Tears foxs apart like there is no tomorow, rabbits get spread all around the paddock. If you are going to cull roo's under tags then it will do that to and i shot 5 fallow deer with it that were a pest the other day for a bloke ranging from 90-270 mtrs, i got 5 from 4 shots all head shots and the last shot scoring two for one.

Shoots plenty flat and doesnt worry about the wind either.

how much does it cost for brass,primers,powders,bullets?

The same brand of componets for the 204 and 223 are the same cost. Food for thought!

Yes and it can drive those 55 grainers at 4000-4100+fps which is great.I miss mine every now and again.
Always another option as an alrounder that's for sure.Wide range of projectiles etc.

Yep but then some one will say, oh but after 300mtrs they loose to much speed blah blah, but i dont shoot foxs past there as i dont like to educate them so who gives a shit.

Then there will be the, oh you cant self spot, well i dont shoot long range with a 6X scope adn any scope wound up to 15+ will make self spotting bloody hard.

Then the old the 204 is not as loud as a 250/243 etc, those who dont use ear muffs for shooting are dills.

Im glad i went back to the 243, i can do all my spotlighting and i can wait on dams for pigs and watch the fallow walking from the crop and take care of them all with the one gun.

The 243 was the first "cross-over" calibre from varmints to game. With a hunting projectile range from 55gr to 105gr, the trick with the 243 is to ensure the projectile is matched to the game. I liked the 85gr Sierra HPBT in both my old Ruger & Remington 243s for all-round use.

Yes that's a good choice.Most factory barrels are 1:10 so the 80's and up seem to run best.
I got to use one for awhile that was set up specifically for the 55 gr BT's(slower twist etc) and it was running them very,very fast and provided some spectacular hits on rabbits and foxes.Sometimes there wasn't enough left to pick up,just true splatter.Also gave one of the best hits on a crow I've seen.Just a black explosion.
There are so many good cals for varmiting when you think.The Fireballs,17's,204,223 ,22-250,220 swift 6br, and 243's plus AI versions of many.The weatherbys,then the big ones.25-06 etc.Such a nice smorgasborg.

I think if its just the game you said then the 204 would suit perfectly, if you want something more of a do all and then get a 204 later the 6.5 swede blows the small stuff up with the best. Crows don't like 100gr Nosler BT's, rabbits are skinned and foxes don't get back up. And of course it takes care of pigs and goats with ease

But for just a rabbit,fox,cat rifle the 204 seems hard to beat, if your going to run factory ammo though then prob 223 will be cheaper.

I love my 22-250 but all three will suit for the average varmint shooter.

Not to be out done here are my latest groups with 40gr Nosler Ballistic tips in my 250. They are deadly by the way.

Well 7mm mag 3858fps and .351" is not to be sneezed at.
That rifle always shot well.
I imagine they explode the rabbits well.

And i havnt stoped now, the 204 is a top round without a doubt. it is easy to get crazy accuracy out of it, fun to shoot and great on the rabbits. I can remember giving my rifle to a mate who does no hunting he took a sight picture on a rabbit at about 200mtrs and promptly removed its head and then shot for the afternoon without missing to many rabbits. Anybody can shoot it.

Another benefit was when spotlighting you dont need to guess range, if its in the light then its a goner.

But for me i find the 243 is much better suited for what i do, last time i went to W/NSW i was swapping between the heavy 308 and the 204 as we were shooting foxes and roos (tags) and so now i will use the one rifle for everything.

There is no way the 204 would have cleaned up the fallow like the 243 did either, The cocky was rapt as they all fell where they stood and after he has had blokes make a real balls up out of it before i will be getting the call next time he has deer escaping and needs them knocked, and that suits me fine as my freezer is full of tasty fallow.
