Pretty sure the very, very long standing record of .009" in LV was set with a .222. Can't argue with that...

And someone said you can,t headshoot foxes consistently, stange I can do it with a 44 year old SAKO .222. Thats the trouble with trends they often hide the best for the worst in any calibre.

I wonder how many .222 barrels were shot out in the heyday of the Roo shooting industry.

Happy Xmas .222 Fans. :)

I have used 11 rounds of .222 ammo to account for the last 11 deer (Fallow and Red) i have shot. Calibre speaks loudly for itself in the field and on the range, and less on a computer screen like a lot of other Calibres.

I have not been without one trebly or another since 1976.

I would say the 222 is liked, as Lapua took it from the market, but have now again re-induced it.

Thats has to count for something!

It's a top cartridge, don't worry about what they say. It will do fine on your foxes rabbits and cats, then if you want it will deal with roos very well too.
Factory ammo can be sought for about $20 a box and like it was said earlier it's easy to reload for.

I'm not good enough to accurately head shoot all the time, so chest shots are the order of the day, BUT, you must use appropriate bullets designed for shoot solid animals rather rather than "blow em up" type pills. The best larger animal bullets are generally made by european makers because .224 cals are used a lot more for deer in europe, especially Roe deer.

I reckon a lot of people rubbish a certain cartridge that they happen to have in their collection to justify the purchase of a new one to their partners.

Not that theres anything wrong with that :D

G'day All,
my first centrefire was a 222 tikka M55. Even after 2000+ rounds it was still capable of putting 7 shots into a 0.4moa group at 100yds.

and that was when I was a mug shooter before I shot BR! (Still a mug but more accurate!)

Just love 'em!

222rem is a great cartridge and it's still my favourite. easy to develope accurate, consistant loads with. personal fav loads are 50gr nosler ballistic tips, 23.5gr of adi bm1 using federal match primers and 52gr seirra matchkings with 23gr of adi bm 1. noslers crono at 3225 and the sierra's at 3208, not far off 223 and if anyones is knocking the 222 then they don't know jack.

the first rifle i got was in 222, its a tikka lsa55 with a delux stock. it was my dad's for 40 years and i before him a roo shooter owned it. barrel and extractor had to be replaced and i've restored the stock to it's former glory.
