I'm a fan of the 22 magnum, missus got 8 bunnies the other day all head shot for 8 rounds, she's chuffed, I did point out that they were under 50 yds away So she pointed out the sambar I missed was only 100 yds away
Her rifle is an early ruger 77/22 mag and is deadly i'd like to look at the newer RAR in all its varriations

There are good rifles out there, the ammo lets them down.

Yep, how true is this, when you find ammo that shoots well in your rifle thenNew to 223 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2017 10:15 am There are good rifles out there, the ammo lets them down.
buy a few bricks of said ammo, all good until that stuff runs out and the next
batch of the same stuff shoots all over the place. This has happened to me twice
and I am waiting to see what happens when I run out of the current ammo. This
may be a while as rabbits are a bit thin on the ground where I am
Cheers

I had an Anschutz 1517DHB lovely rifle beautiful trigger but the inconsistency with the ammo was a major Bugbear. What really got the dummy spat was some squib loads that put the projectile 2-3" into the rifleing.
From then on I carried a cleaning rod whenever it came out of the safe.

Regardless of the cal rimfires are dependent on the quality of ammo to get accuracy out of them.
My quad will shoot sub moa with all 4 barrels with the right ammo.
We shoot the 200m rimfire match every year at the AHN Wodonga big bore shot and either one or both of the kids or myself have been in the medals every year. We have used it as a 22lr, 17HM2 17HMR and this year for the 1st time shot it as a 22mag, 1st 2nd and 3rd against mainly 17HMR's.
In all honesty I think there is SFA difference in accuracy between any of the rimfires in similar quality rifles it all comes down to ammo. With quality target ammo the 22lr might have a slight edge but you are talking ammo that is dearer than HMR. Regular 22lr hunting ammo isn't in the running I haven't found any that will shoot moa consistently.
22mag seems to shoot just as well as the HMR when you find ammo that it likes.

May I suggest a ToZ 78 or equivalent? Mines in 22LR but the general accuracy with most ammo is fantastic. They also come in HMR, and I can’t see how they’d be any different.
