yeah the carbine is a great handy little rifle....I'm using the sako bulk ammo at the moment and was getting 3 shot groups a little under 0.75'' with 5 shot groups opening up to about or just over 1''. The barrel does get pretty warm in the summer months. With my handloads using sierra roo 55gr, lapua cases and 2206h I get pretty consistent 0.5'' groups at 100yards.

It's the perfect rifle for stalking/hunting/foxwhistling....it handles very well, points very well and I love the Mini-Mauser action. The standard trigger has a little creep but the set trigger breaks like glass. I use it a fair bit with the open sights for hunting in the bush where shots aren't much further than 100 yards. I would love to take it hunting goats but alas no goats around my way. With the open sights I can regularly hit old bricks from a rested position. Overall it's a pretty simple rifle...all metal and wood...mini-Mauser action....all in a compact package which shoots accurately. :)

The high bolt handle root is annoying as you cannot mount the scope low and the low comb on the stock is great for open sights but when combined with the high scope mounts it's not ideal....but that is being picky. I'm very happy with it.

The CZ 527 rifles all seem to be great quality at a reasonable price. I had a look at a 527 American in 17 hornet recently....very nice bit of kit.

I remember that report with the opening picture having a cat in it. I took the sport barrel off my 527 and put Trevorts varmint barrel on it but I reckon it's to long and heavy now and had always wondered how the carbine shot cause I'm a small framed fella and I reckon they would be great to use from a vehicle.

The short barrel is excellent in a vehicle. It's no problem to have the rifle in a soft case on the passenger seat and get it out and have a shot out the drivers window without bumping everything. Much easier than using my tikka varmint rifles with 24'' barrels. The CZ527 really is a great all rounder for how most people shoot on farms.

How does your 223 shoot, Knackers?

What projectiles/power are you using?

It's because some of the different brand ammo has left hand threads.
:D :D :D

Might try that excuse next time I miss

Great review mate, nice rifle. I have the 452 Varmint in HMR flavour but would like a cz walkaround 22 one day.

Much appreciated

Louie I used to run 25.7g of 2206 with 50g V-max's for a consistent half inch @ 100mtrs with benchrest and rear bag at the range, shot a few 1' groups at 200 mtrs along the way. Only thing I found was POI would change between a hot and cold barrel, once it was hot it wouldn't change anymore, it was only a quarter inch change but that's a heap in a comp.

Louie, great write up and review.
Like my CZ 452 in 22 and 527 ( not carbine) in 223 as well. The just seem to do the job with no dramas.
