Good choice hideous,most factory guns will shoot well with a bit of load developing I just had a 17fb build great cartridge you will love it.

$500 or less for a tikka M55 if you wait for one to come and they often do plus $500-700 for a new matchgrade barrel and whatever your smith charges with see you with twice the gun any remington you can by.

I agree about the tikka.

problem is the wait..... we all have rifles sitting in our safes we dont use but dont want to sell.

I troll the Australian websites looking for things i want but rarely do they come up at a decent price.

Tikka - $600, barrel and fitting $600 = $1200

resale price is $650-750 witha new barrel

any dealer will give you 1/3 to 1/2rd its resale price.

If anyone has a project sako or tikka they want to part with I would happily talk to them.

Have heard of issues with Remington 700 feeding the short Fireball case . Sako works but rarely any cheap ones to be had .

I heard the same thing , they say the new in the box .17 rem fireball have a seriously modified feed ramp /throat from a standard say .223
