Re: Long Range Hunting Equipment, now Videos.
OK now this site is a varminting site is it not? My understanding of varminting is the picking off of small creatures with vastly overpowered firearms at medium to long range. I do not really consider this as hunting. I consider it like range shooting with live moving targets. Now there are a lot of us here who are not the stereotypical varminter and do things our own way. There are heaps of comments on here about species that are hunted that are not varmints. WHO CARES!!! Why should be give a shit on the method they were taken? As long as they were killed ethically and legally.
So AI has not posted hunt reports from his shooting. BIG DEAL!!! I have shot over 100 foxes and christ knows how many rabbits in the last 12 months since I got really into it but you don't see me posting photos of them. I too bloody busy trying to shoot more of them! I am a spotlight shooter most of the time. Most of my kills are within 200m. I not worried about whether it is skillful or not I just want to kill the bastards!
Long range shooting IMO is just as skilllful as stalking it is just a different set of skills that must be employed to get consistant results. It would take a lot of practice to get within 50m of a bloody deer, well it would also take a lot of practice to shoot the bastard from 600m+. You can alway cary on with the "skill" factor which ever way you hunt. Bow hunters are better at stalking than long range hunters because they have to be to get results. But that is what they like. Long range blokes are better at reading conditions that will effect their shot. Each take keen observation and practice. As others have said if the "skill" is only measured by how close you can get, get a spear and see how you much you brag about "skill".
AI has some bloody nice gear and he is proud of it and he likes what he does. Bloody deer hunters are like trout fishos. Opinionated and love to knock any other method of shooting. Piss off to AHN if you wanna carry on with that crap

Nice sensible post Plowboy, congratulations.
I have stalked deer to within touching distance and I have shot them at long range.
I don't often post about that as it tends to cause some very divisive arguments.
Love your gear AI. I appreciate the posts.
cheers,
Macca.

Not all deer hunters are "Opinionated and love to knock any other method of shooting."
I like Varmint shooting and Deer hunting and just about any other form of hunting. Each to their own.
Here is a big brown Varmint that I shot today with my .338 Varmint rig at 457 yards.

Nice work Wadcutter! Did it slide down the hill to end with its head under the branch? Just looks awkward.

It rolled down the steep hillside about 10m after it went down. Good thing a tree stopped it or it would have gone a lot further. Plenty of prime meat for the freezer.

But why should he? What I don't understand is the dig at him that came from nowhere and was unjustified.trevort wrote:Trev, we know you have a nice camera, can you just put up a photo of a dead creature

Lets get back on track guys. AI has made an outrageous claim that he finds hunting under 300mts boring.
He has not been able to substantiate his claim by producing evidence of his multiple kills.(infact any kill)
I have the ability to tell shit from clay, an important asset when reading the internet

Long Range Hunting Equipment, now Videos.
I've seen evidence he is quite competent off a bench. Long range varminting isn't that different.
Nothing stopping him shooting something at 120 and saying it was 700.
I think most here have broken the 300 metre mark so it's not that outragous a claim

You've got to be joking me right? Hitting a target at 300m is pretty darn easy my friend. Shooting long range comp for a few years now sort of does that to you! I think you need to pull your head out of your arse for two seconds!

He's not the only one I know into long range hunting.
If you keep it up people will work out that you can't shoot past 100m

Re: Long Range Hunting Equipment, now Videos.
Hey AI, I'm not joking, all you have to do is justify your claim with some evidence of all the kills you have made under 300m. Pretty simple! Actually you are the one with your head up your arrogant arse
We can sling shit at each other forever and I will certainly do that when we meet face to face. I just found who was killed on Sunday and no longer feel like fighting with you. Lets just agree to disagree'

Re: Long Range Hunting Equipment, now Videos.
Seriously, showing a picture of a dead critter aint going to prove very much at all? Unless there is numerous witnesses which is not going to be a likely story. Anyone could shoot a critter at 100m, then post up it was shot at 500m+. I am not this type of person.
If you do not believe that I am capable of 300m shots on rabbits, that is fair enough. But, remember this. At Leeton 300m Fly a month back I shot my rifle off bipods, field rear bag, and 4 groups mesured under 2", and 1 under 3". I also placed very high in the standings. There was 30 witnesses to this. So please, do not think that shooting 300m is some sort of huge achievment. This is what I do, I dont shoot at shorter ranges at all many more.
Do I really have to go take a photo of something I have shot at range? I am not to sure what it is going to prove.
Anyway, everyone to their own!
