What types of wildcats would you like to try?

I reckon those cz 527 carbine 7.62x39 are screaming out to be customised into a PPc or now a Grendel based case!

they are the figures i'm expecting from a 22 grendel. hmmm anyone know the H2O capacity of any of these cases?

That would be a .280 Remington (7mm Remington Express). Excellent round.

Id love to try a 20cal on a K Hornet. 11 or so grains of powder, cheap as chips and step between the 17hmr and a 204 ruger

On the other end a 20/220 Swift would be like a laser I reckon.

It's not exactly a wildcat,but I'd love to see a 30-.378 with a remington accelerater (sabot).
either a little 40gn v-max (vaporiser) or a 80/90gn in a fast twist for looooong range mouse shooting

No, standard 6.5 Grendel.

I'm really building the rifle for my kids to use at the range and in the field. Light, accurate and low-recoil. A good starting cartridge.

No, but given the popularity of the 19 Calhoon, I can't see why the 20 K Hornet wouldn't work just as well.

Having made comparison between the 6.5 284 and the 7mm 08 and coming to the conclusion that both the 6.5 284 and 6mm 284 are inefficient and uneconomical I am now seriously thinking of 7mm X 47L.

Will talk to Shane next weekend.

Why? Just get the boltface enlarged to handle the bigger rim.

might want it back as a 223 sized bolt later on and it would be cool.

have seen 6mm br brass turned down to fit a ppc bolt face so why ppc to 223.

my gunsmith shit canned that idea all together. the 223 bolt faced ppc case was a forget it and the grendel necked down to 224 was why don't you just shoot a 22br??

What about the good old .308win case??

IS there any wildcats on this case. Could you make an ackley 308, say blow out the shoulder 40deg, and reduce taper and then neck it down to .284 and run a high BC 7mm. Or does the .284win do the same thing??

The .284 in metric is 7mm. The case was wildcatted and made commercial by Remington back in the days of VB Commodores, AC-DC, Flannelet shirts & Terry Toweling track pants.

My Fly rifle is chambered in 7mm 08 Ackley Improved. From memory I am using 46 grns of 2209 and receiving velocities of around 2900 fps pushing a 168 grn projectile.

Compare this to other calibers such as the 6.5 284 and it is one extremely efficient and accurate caliber.

When it comes time to rebarrel the Remington, I am caught between the .308 and the 7mm08AI.

Cheers Sean, yeah the 7mm 08 looks exactly like what i was thinking about and you say yours is an AI version. Would you have some pics of the cases say compared to a standard 308, 7mm08 and 7mm08AI.

Just having a bit of a search on the net it seems that the 308 doesnt have the capacity to launch the heavier 170-180gn 7mm's cleanly. My questions about this is i am also looking to build another fly rifle, my first will be 6BR or 6BRX/Dasher and i want a second for the windy days and want something in the .284 or 30cal size. So im thinking of a straight 284win or a big 30cal magnum of some description.

How does a .375h&h necked down to 30cal sound, with some AI'ing of the case.
