brad, i've been pondering a full custom build on a tikka t3 action, 1-8 twist varmint barrel chambered in either 22brx or 22dasher to shoot heavy pills but also a must have 6-6.5x47 lapua.
hey do you reckon there's any gain using the 90gr smk's over the 80 grainers? i've run ballistics and can't see the benifit in them.
so much i want, sigh.

Other than a smallish loading port and the trigger why not (shit stir).

Re: Sako 75 varmint 22BR???
they are a nice factory rifle, I have one, but built to a budget and one action fits all length cartridges with a magazine block, hmmmm gotta be better choices. Only after market stocks I've seen (someone on here put up the link) were hellish expensive.
Make an outlandish offer to ogre for one of his 595s!!!!!

Re: Sako 75 varmint 22BR???
If you want it to shoot furry things then an 8 twist and using the 80gr amax will do very well. They are probably the most frangible target bullet out there with a really good BC to go with. A mate claims to have nailed a sub 3" group with his 22BR at 700m and thats all he would tell me about it. Maybe he is getting antsy that I should be able to compete against him now....I only have 2 choices of bullets in the 90gr range and the berger price is a bit off putting- will see how they shoot though. I did the comparisions and i should be able to get the 90's to 3000fps and at that velocity and with me wanting to shoot 300-900m f open, yes the 90gr pill is going to be better in the wind. But i wont use it for varminting as the rifle will be a tad heavy to just walk around with or use on the back of the ute (unless I mount it on the back of the ute- thinking hard now.......) Plus with the thicker jackets on the SMK's i can just see me punching through foxes and having bits of lead going off into the night! Got a perfectly good varminting rifle for that anyway.andrewk wrote:brad, i've been pondering a full custom build on a tikka t3 action, 1-8 twist varmint barrel chambered in either 22brx or 22dasher to shoot heavy pills but also a must have 6-6.5x47 lapua.

If you want to varmint with 80gr amax, you may be able to drive them faster with a 22x47lapua.....
