Hi
I am having a Standard sporter Synthetic stocked Tikka white tail (595) into a 6 BR.
Is there any way that I can add plates or sliders or other fittings or fixtures to the stock to enable the stock to act more like a varminter/BR comp stock?
I want to be able to give myseld the best chance of sighting in and assessing loads without having to get another stock for the rifle.
I an thinking of making/installing a seperate ferrule into the forearm of the stock so I can attach some flat allum plate to the forearm to enable the rifle to ride that bags on my rest better.
I am unsure how to proceed with this idea- can anyone offer some suggestions on how to accomplish this? is there a way of forming or molding the alum plate to aloow it to perform on the bags to it's best ability- while supporting the factory stock perpendicular to the plate.
I am unsure on how to add/modify the rear of the stock so it can ride a bunny ear bag to it's best ability.
I realise this will not be as good as a true competition stock -I'm trying to make the best with my limited resourses.
Hope you can help- pics would be great.
THank you

Ogre,
I used my tikka 243 for my first fly shoot and removed the front sling swivel, drilled a hole in a 3" peice of flat bar and just screwed it to the forend into that hole, I think I even used the swivel screw to do it. It stayed tight and square all day no probs. All it's doing is stopping the canting effect.
Depends on what width front bag you have to the plate width too.....
The back end should be OK in a long ear bag...bag tension on the stock will be the big factor here, holding the rifle the same way each shot should get you OK results.
Maybe some practise firing the gun with different holds would show you what it prefers, it will get you 'into the groove' too

I read somewhere on the net that a bloke did exactly as you described, but instead of aluminium or steel, he cut down one of those neoprene type cutting boards from crazy clarks, woolies, coles etc, and reckoned that the neoprene was easier and faster to get back into stage than the alloy he had used previously, counter-sunk screw hole and used his front sling stud as I recall to anchor it. For a coupla bucks could be worth a try. bit of silicon either side of the screw line wouldn't hurt to help stabilise it either, and can be easily removed later from syn. stock.
Cheers,
Alpal.

G'Day Oger,
smart aluminium has structural aluminium channel (product number CCS07638) that measures 76.4mm wide with 38mm high sides and minimum thickness of 6.35mm this is just about perfect for a BR 3" bag set up and they cut to length. I intend buying some for my varmiters to ride my BR bags.
Just apply some duct tape to make it slippery.
Cheerio Ned

I hopefully will be in Dandenong this arvo- how much do you want and I'll get it while I'm there.
Hopefully they have a short bit as I cannot see the need for a full metre of the stuff unless you want a long bit.
I have pm'd you my mobile number
later
