I'm surprised the 204 is considered by many to be not an option for roos and goats, I agree that 30-40grains is not enough for careless body shots but if you're not too far away and you can put one in the head then i'd shoot a goat size animal with one.

I was also looking at 204's vs 250's vs 223 vs 6mm PPC etc. And after all the searching and reading i ended up with an 85 SS Lam Var 204 with a VX-L 4.5-14 x 50

If you only want to shoot varmints, go the 204.
22-250 if you want to crack the odd goat/pig with it and have no other rifle
Had a 22-250, wouldn't buy another one ever again
204 is legal for roos in SA at least.
