Hi tez,
I have imported some shooting stuff, shells, projectiles, scope etc. and in Queensland you log onto the Qld police sight, weapons liscencing branch and download a "import permit application" which ask's for reason your importing etc. You just fill it in as it's self explanetry and post it off. The phone# and fax# are on the form and I must admit I found them extremely helpful. Once the goods arrived they rang me and posted my stuff directly to me. In qld you must notify them as soon as you receive the goods in your hot little hands.(i just emailed them) and they emailed back within an hour that they had received my email of confirmation. Couldn't have been easier really. Most of my stuff cost less than 1/2 our prices, that included the freight.
I'm sure Vic would have a similar system in place.
Hope this helps, Regards Alpal.
ps. the qld form has all the catagories listed eg cat a or b weapon, parts etc.

Expect $500US just for the shipping of the rifle, as it is most likely that you will have to use a independant shiping company!

There is the export permit... depending on the exporter... $75-$200US.

Importing tax, GST maybe...

The rifle would want to be good....

Yeah since 9/11 you need the export permit as well. A lot of companies won't even try to go through the hassle of getting one for you.

Check out gunbroker.com. Have a search around on that and I think you'll find a couple of dealers in the states who export rifles/guns. Think they charge about US$100 + shipping fees which I assume would be around the $75 mark(??). I think you need the gun you're buying sent to them first though. And I'm not sure if they charge the same $100 for a couple of guns which would make it cheaper...

Hi fellas. I'm new around here. Importing looks to be so much trouble.
I would love a Cooper Montana Varminter. Have e a look at them some time. Beautiful rifles!

Tez,
The cheapest it will cost you will be $1050 AUD or it may be as high as around $1500 AUD,
this is for, export permit, freight ( which is the greatest variable depending on who they will deal through, its up to the exporter), GST payable on cost of goods imported + freight, customs processing fee and then my charge for organising it all.

Dave223,
Most coopers cost around $3000 AUD landed here depending on exactly what you get. Which works out fairly expensive for what they are.
cheers,
Shane

Another lightweight option that I have been considering.
http://dakotaarms.com/cgi-bin/quikstore ... _match=yes
Emailed Dakota in regards to prices/time frame($200 increase just about to happen/1 year wait).

Seems they have sold a number of rifles to Australians over the years.

Yes Dave I will also look into 8400 Kimbers,as they balance better than the 84m IMO.Plus I like the bigger bolt & handle compared with the tiny 84M.
