Good one, Paz; I'm a Rugged #1 fan too, love how a #1 can have a 26" barrel, and still be less than 42" long overall.

I'll have to get across to silverdale sometime soon, maybe we need a 25 odd six meet and greet (put the cat among the '04s  )

Got time this arvo to poke out and have a crack at the new toy on a mates place, though only managed to put four shots through it before a storm pushed me home.
So far im bloody happy with it. I had bore sighted it in the back yard by just looking down the bore, seemed pretty close so didn't touch anything. First shot was 3" to left and 2" high, moved scope over the 3" as per markings on turret and fired second shot, dead centre in line and still 2" high. Scope is absolutely perfect, on 32 power i can pick what quarter of the 1" square on the target to aim at. Ran a further two through it and ended up with a 1.5" 3 shot group, not great yet but still running barrel in(using factory winnies).

Pic of booty fab benchrest and chair  (will be making new higher one, see last pic  ).

Down the "range". This is a dead end track, so no chance of anyone(owner) driving along it.

Some pics af the backing tree, guess you could say it has been "sapped" .
Three 90gr HP factory winnies to the right, fourth, which was first shot to the left.

Took my 250 and 300 as well, though only got a chance to run a quick four out of the 300 before storm pushed me home, ended up with another 1.5" group :? .
High point where bark is missing is fouling shot, though hit exactly where i aimed, futher three skimmed side. Actually have fell a tree(sapling) with my 300wm, was about 4" round, one 180gr sp did the job.
Image

Pic of the bruise on my arm from 300wm, those lines are from the butt pad. Wasn't holding it properly, partly due to the low bench, partly cause im a dickhead and do it every now and then. Was only running 130gr speers, glad i wasnt putting down some 180 or 220 grainers :P .

This is the rain that was coming my way. Love it and hoping for some more.

More to come, am gunna try and get out again tomoz or the next day, wife wants to come this time :D .

Went out again Sunday arvo, managed to run another 20 or so through the '06, best group was 3/4" so far, shooting rather nicely now. The above tree in the pic has now got a hole bored through it about 2" in diameter 8) (just from the '06). Am about to load some 75gr V-max's tonight with 2209 to see what i can do next time i go out. still need to bed the forend and lighten the trigger off a little too.
Ran another 25 through my 300wm and 15 through my 250 as well, gotta play with the loads a little more in my 300, only grouping 1 1/4" at present :x .

Well the "Quarter Bore Rugged" has now managed to really impress me 8) , went out quickly this arvo with my son and ran some handloads through on my home made range.
I had loaded up some 75gr V-max backed by Rinso's favourite load of 56gr 2209, also loaded one grain above and one below, projectiles were set just off the lands(15thou). Results were-
55gr-3 shots into .55moa(nearly one ragged hole)
56gr-3 shots into 1.2moa(think i pulled second shot  , first & last into .6moa)
57gr-3 shots into .62moa
Also ran a few factories through and got 3 shots into .8moa.
Will post a pic of the target when i get to work in the morning.
Loaded what brass i had empty with the 55gr load when i got back tonight, gunna run some 5 shot groups over the weekend and chase some billy goats  .

paz,

Good work mate.

Try a 54.5grn load and a 54 grn load seems the best group was the slowest so check that you will still get about 3400fps out of those loads

cheers

With the 55gr loads i could feel the shock wave coming back over my feet and legs under the bench, my son said the first one i ran out of the three were loudest when he was behind me with ears plugged, these were also the 55 grainer's  .

nice rig !
i have the ruger vt in 25/06 Ackley, and i love that shock wave ! :D
my last 25/06 loved the 85gn nosler bt's and 87gn speer tnt's, but this one likes the heabyer pill, current choice is the 117gn hornady sst.
doesnt make good paddock pizza but dead ia dead and i can use the one pill for everything and you get better long range performance from the bigger pill.

paz,
no, probably not worth the expense !
dont get me wrong i love it and would not change it back, but there is very little gain for the cost of a re-chamber.
compared to other wildcats cartridges its dead easy to create shells and to load for, a fair bit less case stretch, a couple hundred fps faster but no real standout advantage.
but it is a sexy cartridge and i would not go back to a standard, basically did it because i could ?
