243 T3 or X bolt

Post by Shep25 »

Hey guys, im considering buying a new rifle and i have the option of 2.
Both rifles are 2nd hand and exactly the same price.
Both rifles are in very good condition.
I have 2 Tikkas already but I am wondering how the X bolt would compare.
Looking to get peoples opinions between the 2.
Cheers Bob

I can't speak for the Tikka's beyond saying they look well made and those I've shot are very very nice. They have a strong following.

X-Bolt, which model? I have the X-Bolt composite (plastic stock). I like the feel of the duratouch coating but it's hard to keep clean/pretty. Trigger is a bit heavy even when adjusted as low as possible. Quite accurate.

Buying a Tikka you can't go wrong...strong reputation for quality and accuracy. Browning, perfectly fine but probably not the same following. All depends on whether you are buying it to shoot or looking at resale value later.

If the ones you are looking at are timber then pick the nicest one.

Cheers Ravern
The rifles i have a choice of are:
Tikka: blued walnut.
X bolt: stainless synthetic
Will mainly be a stalking/ hunting rifle.
Both my other rifles are stainless synthetic so not sure if i will stay the same or go walnut.
If nothing else i will handle each and choose the best fit.

Tikka sounds like the best value but consider the weight of timber vs plastic if you intend to stalk with it. Also consider the scratch factor, how upset will you get if you ding the timber or scratch it.

I think Tikka's have a 2 lug bolt, X-Bolt has 3. Not sure if that's something to worry about in making up your mind.

Flip a coin mate. The xbolt is a fine rifle and you know what I think of tikkas.

I have had an xbolt and two tikkas. Agree with the coin toss. The Kickinback trigger may just sway me to the tikka

Mcarbo spring fixes the trigger on the xbolt. Isn’t as simple to fit as shown in their YouTube clip though. Requires trigger to be pulled apart.
