Had a look at Craigs scope when he camped here on New Years. Pretty impressive.
The balance of rifle and scope was good. Same as a regular varmint rifle scope setup.
Easy to get a sight picture through scope. Felt really comfortable and natural with eye socket pressed on scope. Probably more comfortable than a normal scope. What surprised me was how it was just the same picture day or night. The picture in scope is better than the y-tube clips I have watched.
In the dark nothing can hide. Could easily make out all the cattle across the 400-500 m flat front of my house. Spotted 2 hares at 300m. Wouldn't see them with the brightest spotlight unless they moved with the ankle high dry grass. Was and will be fun watching on a smart phone or tablet what the shooter is seeing through scope with Bluetooth.
If this is the technology avaible to civilians its scary to think how good the gear is thats not.
Is the detail as good as a bright spotlight and high end scope? No
Will you shoot more foxes than a bright spotlight and high end scope? No but not less
Is it worth the cost of the pulsar? Definitely as its a high end bit of technology and sometimes when new technology comes along it takes a while to change what your perceptions of what your used to. Myself included.
The only thing Im not convinced with yet is if its holding a constant point impact. I have 2 204R in safe with a Nightforce and Zeiss HD5 and loaded ammo. I haven't shot for 3 months but I could pull either out tonight and know they will be dead on.
We shoot a LOT of foxes from Autumn to Spring have tried and sold a lot of different scopes and rifles ,spotlights, Led torches so have good opinions of what works. Will see how the Pulsar thermal measures up.
