Hi guys,
Looking into something for Dad, possibly a 204 ruger and found a Varmint down in sydney, would this be too heavy in the paddock. Would be used for a stroll and a spotlight etc. Dad is no slouch so Varmint model might be good for a little more heft anyway.

Tikka for all round Varmint or not
Re: Tikka for all round Varmint or not
Go for it, I had one and wish I never sold it, I loved it, your old man will as an all rounder too imo, I'm pissweak and I didn't struggle dragging it around.

There is no better value for money rifle in existence. I'll carry either of mine all day. A quality sling makes all the difference.

As far as varmint rifles go the tikka isn't very heavy. I've seen one in 204 in operation. Very nice

I'll Second all the above
Mine's no problem to walk around with it was a fair bit lighter before I swapped the Leupold for the Nightforce.
A reanly nice rifle to shoot of hand

Thanks Gents this is what we were thinking. Barrels don't seem as heavy as the savages out there.

The Tikka varmint and Winchester coyote were/are about the most portable of the commercial varmint guns.

Re: Tikka for all round Varmint or not
So finally put the funds together found him a t3 synthetic blued for under 700. So next question is what pills? Tempted to just buy him some factory ammo but have 300 left over so dies cases and projectiles could be sourced. He doesn't shoot a heap at minute or reload much...so thinking factories might be the go.
So the tikkas like 40gr vmax or need to run the lighter pills?
