Pros and cons of running a 25/06 as a varminter? Got the option to grab a very cheap T3 Lite stainless in 25cal... oddly I have brass and some pills already saved for a rainy day.
Interested in experiences of those that have run one. Projectile choices, and most importantly, whether good speeds can be achieved using ADI powders. Not willing to run Alliant or Winchester due to availability issues.
So fire away, just do it fast As I may just grab it tomorrow!!

Just do it Con, no sense waiting and then losing the opportunity, you cant live on "What ifs". Had a Ruger 257 rob varminter, smashed just about anything, vaporised crows and rabbits with 75gn hornady hps out as far as I could hit them, while a bit slower than the 25-06, there wouldn't be much in it. Dropped many a goat at over 500 yds using 100gn Speer BTSP and 100gn Hornady interlocks. 25 is where its at.
Not enough barrel length on a T3 Lite to make it worthwhile I'd have thought? If I grab it, it's really as a future donor for either a 6mm/06 or such. Aussie Steve's 6mm/06Imp is just awesome under the spotlight...

240wby, same thing in a factory chambering, you going to make it to Wodonga this weekend.
I've had one built by the late bill marden, heavy barrelled sako , great cartridge but for a dedicated varminter / spotlighting gun I think it has a little to much recoil I no I'm a big girl
I agree with the recoil and blast comments. I keep looking at it as a cheap donor for later rebarrelling. Gotta find some use for it, or I'm back to deliberations on a T3 Varmint in 223 (1:8"), 22/250 or 204.
Or even worst, buy it AND a Varmint 223 (1:8"), and use the 1:8" barrel for a 22/250 rechamber, and put a 300Blackout on the 223 action.

Just grab it Con, shoot the barrel out then turn it into a 6mm/06.
I ran one for a while and loved it, like others have said a little bit to much gun as a dedicated varmint rifle but as a dual purpose rifle that will see a bit of varminting/spotlighting they are hard to beat.
Experience with 25/06 is what swung me to the 240 over the 257, shot a heap of big pigs with 100gr from 25/06, 240 will push the same weight at the similar speeds so I knew it would do the job and the ability to drop down to 55gr at 4000fps+ to me make it a better varminter.
