In your haste to thrill us all yet again with your knowledge, have you maybe forgotten to include, or is it a residual effect of your former employer that you are only allowed to purchase from specified outlets so do not look elsewhere but, you mention 3 actions.

Nothing in my words has been a personal attack on anybody here, simply my explanation for my position. It is a pity that some have chosen to degenerate to personal remarks as it is uncalled for and not in the spirit of AusVarmit as I have experienced it.

So far, many emotive words have been put forward, but no logical arguments have come forward. If you must insist on emotional arguments against my logical argument then we will constantly go around in circles as we are not approaching the discussion from the same place.

What about the cooper and Kimber both out of America and surely an action originally designed for a 22lr would have to get a mention as a mini/small centrefire action. Ala Anschutz 54. This is without going into custom actions and already the choices have doubled.
I guess after my long winded ramble my question would be please explain to me why these actions are unsuitable!

Cooper only started making a repeater small action in 2014. At $2750 USD it makes a Sako 85 look cheap.
Kimber makes some great actions but they don't do a mini action such as we are discussing here. Not sure why you would bring them up.
As you have observed the Anshutz actions are also small and light, but they no longer make a small centrefire rifle. The old Anshutz actions have a pressed barrel which is impossible to replace without threading the action and starting again. Not a contender, then or now and not worth mentioning in this discussion.
You didn't mention ) the NULA Model 20 rifles, but at $3500 USD there really was no need.

.All of these American actions are high quality, very suitable, but also very expensive. I did not include them in the three action roundup as I was trying to compare actions normally available in Australia with what I consider to be the benchmark - the L461. In case you haven't noticed, we are at 70c to the US dollar and dropping, American sourced product is becoming more expensive every day - including the "custom actions that will double the choice". These semi-production American actions are now making a Sako 85 donor look like a good choice.

The Sako L461 is a benchmark because it is a very well made action, which is reasonably available in Australia. As are the newer Sakos, CZ527 and Zastava m85s, and now the Mini Howas.

In reckon Keith is closest to the mark here...

Wow. My thoughts are if you love Sakos buy one, if you think Howas are great buy one.
At the end of the day both will shoot better than the shooter's skill is able to utilize in the field so this whole argument is academic and I can see both rifle shooting great side by side and maybe the odd rifle of either brand not shooting great.

The biggest factor I have noticed with shooting is confidence. If you have confidence in your gear you will shoot better than if you don't and that doesn't mean the gear is bad if you don't have confidence in it it just means you have to feel comfortable and rely on your gear to perform.

To this I would add practice. Then more practice.
