I don't know if it would be illegal reading the legislation:

A mate talked to Vic pol about the, and they said they would be classed as a handgun. Go figure.

their reasoning was it can be shot without the rear bottle and that would put it under 65cm.

Same reason I believe you need permission from the Commissioner or other to shoot rail guns in Unlimited BR comps in NSW from what I understand - removable or shortened butt stocks?
