Not mine, belongs to the young fella who skins with me, he dropped around yesterday arvo for a yarn and dragged that out of the bag. First impressions from me are "yeah, well at least its a rifle", don't like the plastic stock, or magazine, mounts and the plastic in general. Seems to be very front heavy and not that well balanced, but he is quite happy with it. Have sorted some brass for him. Not too sure on the mounts, I know most people chuck them, but what is the problem with them, besides being alloy ? May have convinced him that a Boyds stock would be a lot better. Saw a factory stock for one of these on Used Guns yesterday for 250, if he advertised his for that, is that a good example of a ball park selling price ?

Love the Tikka's but think the stocks let them down.

So what is the problems with the rings, Ive never used alloy myself, always used Hilver steel ? They look like they will do the job. Is there real problems with them, or is it a bit of snobbery and others wanting to keep up with the Jonses type of situation ?

They slip, so you tighten them a lil bit more, but because the top ring is more than 180 * and there is a bit of clearance in the holes that lil bit more you just did pulled the ring into the scope tube and dented it.

By all means give them a try and make sure you post up the pic of the dents in the scope tube.

I can only guess it goes along the lines of "They are fine, but you can buy better..."

Yeah I know, I know, they're boring to look at.
But they just work, and keep on working (just like a dull bog standard Commodore)

Looks like it's the Varmint model with the heavier barrel. The plastic stock doesn't weigh much so all the weight is out the front.

I've seen pics of the recoil stop pin of the ring being driven out of the metal of the ring from recoil in bigger cals.

Won't be an issue on small cal centrefires.

I used the factory rings on mine, they work fine.

Yeah its the varmint model. Fen thanks for the info, now you mention it I have heard that, I spose he will have to try them and if no good, get some decent ones.

I have three biggest 30/06 changed the rings, 223 and 6.5x55 still use the factory rings, did have the scope slip but that was with a hot load with 140's and have since down loaded my load since I have the 06. Each of them shoots half MOA all are T3 lites. So I say congrats but would change the rings on a 300 WSM.

Good to see another Tikka out there. They just work and are exceptionally accurate.
A mate went through 4 high end heavy barrel Savages in 223 and 2 didn't shoot and the other two had scratches on the crown and one of them had a burr on the edge of the chamber.

He said screw it got a tikka varmint blue and shot .600" with factory ammo.
I told him to get the tikka from the get go but he had to learn the hard way!

People don't like this or that on them which is fine but you show me another brand of rifle that just works out of the box like a tikka does for under $1400?

Now there is all sorts of aftermarket goodies for them too which makes them even more appealing.

My 204 shoots far better than I can consistently do.
