I only have room for 2 rifles and 1 is a 17HMR the other is a BSA superstar air rifle which I am looking at replacing with a centrefire. I prefer varminiting but would also like to be able to do a bit of walkin around. I know I'm asking alot but I don't mind lugging heavy things around as it just improves my fitness.
What may you be hunding mate?
Maybe a cartridge chambered in this rifle would be ideal:
With the 17HMR i usually stick to rabbits and foxes. I used the air rifle soley for indian mynahs and pigeons, however, its getting hard to find places to shoot safely around Sydney (especially with my work place changing venues). I will be trying the airrifle on some rabbits under walk about spotlight over the nexte few weeks. I was hoping to get something that would take most Australian small to medium game (i.e smaller than pigs). I like the idea of being able to reach out and take down a fox or roo/goat at longer distances. What calibre would you suggest?

Mate I'd really suggest the 243 for your situation not too big for little stuff not to small for big stuff!
If you want something to take the bigger stuff a little more reliably but still be good on varmints the 7mm08 is ideal if you reload your own ammo but if not the 243 would be your best bet due to the factory ammo available everywhere in a variety of loads.
I really do think that Remmy I showed you is the goods for what you want it seems to be an ideal varmint/hunter.
A dealer tried to offload a Ruger VT in 243 to me the other day. Under $900 with a cheap tasco scope. There were a couple of superfuicial nicks in the stock. I might go and have another look

Be careful mate you can buy a new one with free rings for around 10-1100 bux so it may be worth just buying a new one for piece of mind!
Is the Ruger VT something that is easy enough to carry around or what? I know it's a little heavy. I also see some places have it with a hogue stock. Maybe this might make it a little lighter??? Anyone know?
