Bought myself a Mosin Nagant !

Unissued 1942 'model' .... was for a mate of mine, but he changed his mind.

Picking up on Friday, will have a lot of cleaning to do as it's still in the factory 'grease'.

Comments? Tips?

Will post some photos (if anyone is interested).

I'd be tempted to buy one, plus a heap of ammo, if they were readily available in Melbourne.

One Nagant and a stack of surplus ammo should last me a Zombie apocalypse or commie invasion.

Well, drove across on Friday and picked it up !

Spent nearly 3 hours cleaning all the grease off it... yet to do the barrel as my local gun shop did not have the cleaning rod I wanted

I love looking at this firearm, it's in great condition...extra bonus, all the numbers match - bolt, barrel, end plate, trigger guard, bayonet !!!!

Got 100 rounds of ammo to put through it..let me know if you'd like me to shoot something for you

Need to get the iPhone sorted so I can post some pics.

(The bayonet scares me a bit ...can't imagine 'sticking' somebody with one.)

Mosin Nagant-utilised in war and conflict then any other rifle.

I have a 1952 M38 carbine, same gig - unissued and new.

Lots of fun, blasty and knocks pigs down with authoritah!

Don't bother with the corrosive Berdan primed exmil shit, just go with reloadable Highland stuff. That's my first tip and will save you some headaches when cleaning.

Fenring beat me to the point about the corrosive ammo, don't bother with it it's not worth the hassle....

I'm extremely jealous, always wanted mint condition ex-mil rifles but the prices are always more than I have!

I haven't any experience with ex-mil ammo, let alone corrosive. Is it true that as long as you clean the rifle properly after every use corrosive ammo won't be a problem?

Yes, but cleaning is a lot more involved and you need to do it ASAP after firing.

The exmil stuff isn't all that cheap anyway, and not worth the risk of missing some of the salt left behind by the primer and ending up with a rusty bore....

Leave the military ammunition in the potato fields of the Ukraine-eventually it will cause you grief and over time damage the rifle.
