Importers have dropped their prices as they have purchased with the Aussie $ stronger at one stage HMR ammo was almost $30/50. I live in hope we may see a further drop, but I doubt it

If your after a rabbit rifle have a look at the M2, everyone seems to forget about it but IMHO it is the pick of the 4 rimfires for chasing rabbits.
Loaded with the same 17gr V-max as the HMR but at 2100fps. Gives a very similar trejectory to the 22WMR
100y zero is 0.7" high @ 50y, 4.4" low at 150y.
Price is only about 30% more than hyper velocity 22lr ammo and gives at least 30% more range. Cheaper than the cheapest 22WMR ammo and almost half the price of HMR ammo.
Took my quad out this afternoon with the 17M2 barrel and had no trouble rolling rabbits to 125y missed a couple at 150 by holding over to much

If you want a dirrect comparison I'm selling Hornady V-max @
17HMR $21.10/50
22WMR $19.90/50
17M2 $12.60/50
no V-max in 22lr but something like a CCI Stinger, Velocitor or Quik Shok are $8.75/50
they seem very cheap "220"
cheaper than what i can get em for & i get em at a mates rate to .
17 hmr @ over $30 / 50
22mag $27-32 & thats for the cheapest ones .

All I can guess is that it is old stock purchased before price cuts have been passed on.
We were up to almost $30/50 for HMR at one stage but as I said prices have been dropping for a little while now and we adjust our pricing as new stock arrives.

Hornady ammo seems to be very competative price wise at present, cheapest HMR, 22WMR and M2, even 204 ammo is cheaper than the Federal loads

I love the HMR, i pay $16.90 a packet for ammo, buying a couple of bricks everytime i go to the bigsmoke. Little bugger shoots flat, its not noisy & its accurate. A mate bought a thumbhole stainless marlin (i wish they were around when i bought my 17vs marlin) & i have the stainless vs, they both shoot great, he has the rifle basix trigger & i have a 5 cent bik spring trigger, his is better.

They kill cats fantastic Ron and thats all you need to know.

I'm paying $27 a box atm but will be dropping in on 220 soon.
Accuracy is about the same in most rifles, I have found sub half inch groups at 50 mtrs is more the norm than unusual and around the 1" mark at 100 mtrs is the average, and wind can push them around a fair bit. Here's a couple of groups out of my CZ Varmint, and a drop test at 50,100,150 yards with my Ruger with the same POA.

Hi Knackers , Great cat ! Thanks for showing us the targets also , thats a beauty at 50yards. I thought about it, long and hard and have come to the conclusion that i really have no need for one at the moment. Shanes working on my hornet as we speak. I might change my mind if a Rem 504 heavy target model became available though   . Cheers Ron
