to John Mcquire, John is there any chance of you making me a meplat repointer especially shaped for the 187 BiBs .. i see the prone guys rattling on about how the US units are the bees dick ,but the one i made in 2003 was a complete failure .. The repointed and quailfied bullets were worse than just pulling em from the box ,you seem to be happy with the one you made for the 123s ,so how much for an ole mate ??.Ole buddy ,ole pal ,grovel,grovel,etc..JR..Jeff Rogers

Whenever i read all the guff about bullet pointing Jeff, i keep recalling the email sent to you by Henry Childs. The one where he explained how he lowered the BC ES by meplat cutting, but then raised it again after pointing. It is in my mind that the point up alters the frontal profile enough to bring things back to square one and in Henry's description i believe things were worse afterwards.
John explained to me that his sleeve is bullet profile specific and cannot be used on any other bullet even of the same caliber. The Whidden sleeve is caliber specific but i see there are other breeds that offer bullet specific sleeves now. These i think are the ones that people are raving about.
I think John made a cherry and cut the sleeve after precisely drilling a very small pilot hole around 30 thou or so. I think John also drills every meplat prior to pointing so as to keep uniformity for the point up and keep that little "ball" of air flow constant. This is the method that Palmisano used and reccomended. I am sure John will explain it. My view of drilling then cutting rather than forming the point is still the direction i would head. There is enough jacket to do it and the chances of distortion is zero.

Hi aJR Tony is correct when he say's that my point up die will only suit one bullet - it was made to do 70 gn smk"s and will not fit the points of vld bullets but it might fit other makers HP projectiles - i would have to see the bullet and measure the radius of the point -
I will be in townsville on the 18th and will visit and remove that green thing from your fridge  will also have a look at your projectiles and see if it would be possible for me to make up another die to suit I might be able to reform a centre drill on my tool and cutter grinder to suit and make a die for you -- its trial and error to get it right but it does work when you get the shape you want -- see you soon john mc :rifle: :rifle:
