Unluckiest group Jaegan Peet 60.04 on the warmer target (warmer target does not count as a match target for anything including Fly hits) This is one of the best targets I have ever seen and I will try to get a pic to post.

All up, a day dominated by Light guns in what can only be described as some of the best conditions I have ever seen at Majura Range. That said Matt Paroz handled the conditions brilliantly and all I can say is beware the quiet man with a 6BR.

Gidday Rinso, I can't quite understand when you say you did not see anyone from the forum. Ackley Improved ( Trevor ) was present. I was there trying to shoot.
Maybe we should arrange "cloth sew on" patches,with a Aus Varmint logo so we can recognise each other at Silverdale and Hornsby.
Anyway, I had a beaut day. My score was down from last time though. How about the magnificent guns Shane builds up.
Shane handi work was responsible for the 1.1" group shot by Jaegen and AI's little 6mm Dasher has to be one of the prettiest rifles I've seen in years

I was referring more to the lads on here that have been keen to enter the postal Fly shoot rather than those who shoot the Fly on a regular basis.

I stand corrected on the score but still one of the best targets I have ever seen .. yes I agree that he set a standard he could never maintain ... but its a target he'll hang onto.

Matt you should get yourself to Batemans Bay, Melbourne or Sydney add one of those to the Pro Cal and you will have 3 scores for the Fly SOTY in Light Gun.

Was a great day at Canberra..

All that are interested should have come along!! It was good to meet Malcolm, to put face to the name... wish it could have been some more of you!

Yes.. the warmer target.. 1.1" was amazing!! It was more amazing than just the group itself... it was planted fair smack in the middle of the target. Awesome!!

Matt Paroz was very consistant throughout the match, which resulted in an excellent win. Very well shot!!

Matt, dont listen to Rinso.... dont go to the other shoots for the SOTY... give us fellas a go at it...

And the last thing.. well Rinso.. go the Dasher!!!!! HA!!

No mate shot the 300 Win Mag .... Could have shot the 25.06 and got the same result ... Kenny why don't you and Steven drag your lazy asses down to Batemans Bay in June there are a lot turning up for that shoot even aJR I hear, now if he can travel from Townsville well Tamworth isnt that far .... my range of excuses are listed below.

1 Wind blew just as I squeezed the trigger.
2 Wind stopped just as I squeezed the trigger.
3 Bullet must have hit an insect or something.
4 Used the wrong bullets.
5 Action Screws too Tight/Loose.
6 Scope fogged up and target was blurred.
7 Someone coughed and put me off my shot.
8 Had the wrong bolt in my rifle.
9 The Target moved
10 I think my barrel is bent.
11 Some geek must'a crossfired on my target.
12 The rifle barrel must be getting dirty.
13 A bug flew up my nose.
14 An ant bit me on the butt.
15 Lunch gave me cramp.
16 Thought I put the sights back to where they were.
17 I just got new glasses.
18 I can't concentrate when women are shooting with us.
19 Her perfume put me off.
20 The guy next to me has got really bad BO.
21 Must have wound the scope adjustment the wrong way.
22 Too much wind.
23 Can't see my bullet holes too much heat shimmer
24 Missed the wind change
25 They must have put less powder in the cartridge at the factory.
26 The bullet got tired on the way to the target
27 Target is too far away call in an AIR STRIKE.

Pick the one you like the most .. no really just caught by a few changes you know the 4 in group 1 out system ... have to do better next time.
Conditions were very good "for Canberra" which is still tricky at best, the guys that scored well, shot well and deserved the results they got.

Well done ... but ... don't expect me to start being nice and building a Dasher, the 30 cal has some life in it yet. Just remember you need that trigger gaurd enlarged ... or you wont get the cast on your finger through it for the next shoot ... mmmm have I said too much ..given away my cunning plan.

I am trying to swindle some way to get to Batemans Bay.. But I think it will be a very difficult task.... Other half and overseas will win outright.. Unless, hang on.. Am I scared of flying?? June the 10th I will be.....

Can I be sick with the Avian Flu and still go to Batemans??? How about getting some fines and a warrant out for me.. then I cant leave the country!!

I think a 6mm barrel would be nice on your heavygun....

Once I get some of the bizaloid (?????) for a sighter plate I am going to do some shooting in some pretty harsh conditions to see how I fair. Canberra was not bad conditions at all I thought and I want to see how I go in the extreme.

Got to get me some of those foam ball wind flags.. They work for me better than any vane style!!

Well done to Matt P on the Fly. Well done to Goody on the 1K LG. Well done to Jacko on the HG 1K after a long sojourn. How many shot blind verses spotted and how did they fair?

Dave G, Jacko and I shot blind, I think maybe 1 or 2 others out of the 30 odd shooters did as well but not 100% sure of numbers. The results will pop up on ACTBenchrest Homepage eventually we will have to wait for them there.

Sunday's 1000yard match

Dave Groves and his Canberra clubmates deserve significant thanks and recognition for the changes and work they have made prior to and during the shoot.

A combination of the extra 3 benches and the efficient target change over system on the pit boards, enabled the match to run faultlessly with all shooters finished, packed,fed and ready to leave by 1.45 pm.

Great work fellahs and greatly appreciated by all who attended.

TZ - michael easton and dave purcell both tried the blind style and did extremely well

Yeah mate...I know the story, in fact I have perfected the missed condition technique and can do it every detail now

Loved the #26 excuse...."the bullet got tired on the way to the target"

As for Batemans, I dunno what I am doing until I am doing it, I could show up with my 6.5 cal shotgun...actually It's probably worn out to 7mm by now....but very doubtfull, So would not be too competitive.. + I am still itchy for the short range stuff this year and I simply can't get to everything.... but if I get around to a re-barrell on the remo the long range bug may bite me again.

Atten Matt P, for years i have been tracking my group agg in comparison to the score agg in the FLY SHOOT..I was wondering if you could report on the group agg from your 236 win in Canberra???(others welcolme to) It's interesting to note differences , at our SOTY last year i shot my smallest agg at 2.50 in with a 239 score and at the Brisbane SOTY it was 3.22in and a 245.. When TZ shot one of his 252s it was a 3.30in average .. I think this kinda proves U don't have to own a 1inch gun to do OK at FLY....JR..Jeff Rogers

Measured them up after our chat last night the agg was 3.26" with one 5+" group, although you get points for group it's predominately a score match, saying that one target has 4 in the 10 ring and 1 in the 6 and the group went about 3". IMO you need a gun that shoots elevation well under the 10 ten ring so when you do get the wind right it scores well, my first 3 targets the elevation was under 0.75".

I had a look last night at the three 250 score targets i have shot in comp and the pair of 252s are both over 3 inch aggs. The 255 has a high 2 inch agg. All the groups show 4 Liberals and one Green. The nature of the beast is that the group will always suffer if you chase the score and vise versa. If the shots were pulled in to complete the five shotters, all three match cards would have scored close to 260 and that is without the points score inclusion of the shots being more centralised. So if one was to get the groups completed and centralised, 270 or more would not be out of reach. But this is like golf where you hit your irons well and putt well on the same day. Very rare unles you're Tiger.
