Canberra weekend.

Post by Tony Z »

Things must be real bad if its lunch time on the Monday after the Fly and 1K and there is yet to be a mention of the results. Maybe AI just blew everyones doors off with the pop gun and left them all speechless

Tony,

For most part of the day I couldn't feel my fingers.

The conditions were pretty atrocious, gale force winds and it was freezing cold (8'C) with-out taking into consideration the chill factor. There were certainly no 400 yard Fox shooters there.

In the second detail the wind had pulled three of the targets from the frame (including mine) and I later learned that I could have refused to continue with that card, as opposed to placing an extra round through it amongst the confusion. I now know for next time.

The highest score from memory was shot by young Mitchel Tallard (it was in the 200's)

The best group I shot for the day was 3.04 and had I not re-adjusted my initial POA it would have been half that (oh well).

Although the conditions were miserable it was good experience and a challenge just to get any of your shots into the scoring ring.

Regards

Yea, horrible conditions all weekend. Saturday was 40kmh constant winds, with gusts between 60 and 75kmh. Rained, sleeted and tried to snow.

Mitchell Tallar won with 200.1. No flash scores were coming out of that kind of wind.

Sunday we got an average of 60kmh winds with gusts to 95kmh. Same rain, sleet and snow as Saturday, but probably slightly colder.

I left the scoresheets for Sunday in Daves car and will get them off him and post results for the 1k as soon as I can.

I shot on sat & it was my first 500mtr shoot & a learning experience it was .....having to hold clean off the target in order to hit the thing was different.
Sean kindly spotted for me & gave me some needed advice.
Im still unsure why people would live in Canberra on purpose .....cold cu#* of a joint.

It snowed at the 1000 and hailed at the fly. I came 9th from 47 in LG and since I haven't shot fly since Canberra in March I was pretty happy with the relative improvement though the score was nothing to crow about. Beating PVM by two flies would have to be a highlight of my competitve shooting career so far!!! :D I had 3 targets were the flags looked sort of the same! but one shot disappered, like not even on the target outline or backing. It was rough.

No doubt wearing Yowie suites, range finder in one hand, Kestrel in the other, ballistics program in meltdown and doing their best with-out the use of wind flags.

I wonder how many they would have shot?

Paper never tells tales.

It was F_cking horrible.... I have never been so cold in my life... and for two F-ing days...

It was the most difficult shooting conditions I have seen yet.....

I shot the pop gun in both LG and HG.... 66 shooters total... Overall 23rd with LG, and 5th with HG. So, considering the conditions the little tacker did alright... 5th overall. Its funny that the first 5 overall all shot Detail 3, high score target and small group also came from Detail 3. My two scores, same shooter were worlds a part... Highest score target also came from a popgun... my old one actually.

Well done to the 200 score.. it was pretty amazing in these conditions. I would have expected a winning score of around 170 at the start of the day!

Officially... Canberra's weather sucks serious arse!

Cheers

Congrats to young Master Tallar on a fine win in the Fly in obviously very trying conditions. Fifth in the HG is not too bad there Trev, pop gun and all. Did you run or pick and is the Cruiser weight the way to go or is it to early to say?
Sounds like the 1K is a no go zone at the minute. If the Saturday was this bad at 500m, it must have been beyond description at a 1000 yards on the Sunday. No doubt numbers may have been down from the shell shock of the previous day.

Tony

There was no Cruiser weight... just my LG shot in both! I had to pick and run, but I'd say pick more. It was a big risk to run due to high wind switchy conditions, although one detail did get a good run!

It was very trying weekend of shooting. Next is Batemans Bay.. has to be better.

I am really looking forward to Batemans Bay.

I am going to have myself two bites of the Cherry, one in light gun and one in heavy gun.

Next Fly shoot in Canberra should be entertaining, ten cards, one gun per shooter.
