Hi All , Yesterday was our 2nd match for 2009 at 1K.. Small entry for our 1st postal .. They picked a good day to stay away as our following fishtail breeze was at an interesting level ,i made some real average wind calls even though i got all the bullets on.. JR, between the golf and a return to open and mixed pairs beach volleyball, it certainly sounds like i made a good decision to bail out now. The best bit is there is no fuckwit trying to change rules or prevent you from playing either one. The even better bit is i get to look at all the hot bodies dressed in lycra. Some of the girls don't dress too badly either
Yep it sure was windy on the golf course yesterday. Oh mein gott, you should have seen the mirage. I lost sight of the golfball once it flew past 200 meters. .

As outlined by JR yesterday was the second 1000yd match for us up here in Townsville and it was a very small field with only 5 shooters turning up to take on the conditions. I know that I was not able to find out which flag to shoot on and I think that this was the same for the other guys judging by the results for the day and looking at the split groups that everyone had happening.

Great effort to Eric G who managed to keep the LG group agg under double figures and the full results are in the competition results area.

Next match will be 11 October.

in IBS 1000yd BR,i do not feel that the results achieved are the only indicator of "success".

from my perspective,i reckon everything is relative to the many variables and influences that must be overcome during a 1000yd match.

the inherent high degree of difficulty associated with this form of shooting is what makes it so special and challenging. assuming, that there are no major dramas with the equipment used,sometimes the result sheet is, just, a direct indicator of the effects that good or bad conditions can cause to groups and scores.

sure, it may be very beneficial to strike a business period when all that is required, is that the "X" is held for the 5 or 10 shots( not saying that i have experienced this however!), and providing the rifle,loads and shooter are in sync, it is on the cards that, an impressive result will be achieved.

later details on the day may have to deal with very different or adverse conditions, and due to the "luck of the draw", will most probably, not be able to match the previously mentioned results.

but, these same shooters,whilst most likely not taking home the "chocolates" for that day, if they analyse and think about what may have helped or hindered their efforts during the match, will have gained very valuable experiences and knowledge that they can call on in future and benefit from.

in relation to other matters, as has been mentioned here and elsewhere, there is an open and ongoing invitation to any club or individuals in australia to participate in the postal matches with the virginia club.

all that is required, is that, they or the match organisers are prepared to pass on the results.

Definitely agree that the difficulty factor is the attraction and the luck of the draw for conditions is a big part of the equation when you look at the difficulty. I now in perfect testing conditions my rifle has produced sub 2" groups at 900yds in practice so the rifle from my perspective is not a variable, just me and the weather.

The results on the weekend were not pretty for me personally but I took a lot away from the day in review so hopefully next time I will be better equipped to take on the conditions...... until I look at the wrong flags again

I think Dave has made a valid point or two here.
Yes on a perfect run assuming one of fifty equipment and technical issues doesnt beat you a great group is on the cards but its the variables that make it challenging isnt it.
I have had days when I thought "what wrong with these blokes this is easy" then again I have had days I would rather forget for any number of reasons.
I think I gain more satisfaction from a reasonable result on a bad day than good result on a good day, its how you handle the tough days that matters. I have also found that the tough days are the best teachers.

Hi Guys , Shooting at the distance of 1000yds is with out a doubt a humbling thing some matchs..The Look on a competitors face when the flags they have been taking notice of for the 6 minute sighter period all turn to a direction and angle never seen before ,ever..This is worth it's weight in gold ,i believe ,because you know that that Look is the same one that will be on your own face sometime in the near future .. A big part of this equation ,getting it right that is ,is i'm sure 75% in the gun/gear .. Because if you have a gun that will shoot all the time and at the distance that the comp is being shot then the learning curve is made a whole lot easier.. If the gun is doing it's own thing it takes many a match to actually learn what effects the conditions are really having..I have seen many a shooter get up from a target and claim he has just got the worst relay from hell ,tell ya the truth ,IMO a lot of the bad performances can be attributed to a badly set up gun / handling package ...JR..Jeff Rogers..ps ..ever heard ,Holy Crap ,what do i do with them !!(Flags)
