G'day Fellas,

Just thought I would post the results of the Woollahra small bore prize shoot that was held yesterday at the Anzac rifle range Malabar (15/8/09). For those that aren't aware Anzac rifle range overlooks the ocean so there is always a breeze to contend with.

It was a three card match convened under the rules of English match. I found the wind to be difficult as it would come in and swirl and watching the flags didn't always aid the placement of shot, so it was back to the method of if I could feel it then it is there.

Commendations to those who organised the shoot, it was convened like clockwork, with no delays or disputes and the clubhouse is well maintained.

It is unfortunate that the Government is being held ransom to Green preferences and remains intent on closing the range.

Well done also to those that made the effort to attend and to those that have contemplated competing in such events, the small bore comps are a good day that can be enjoyed by all and one does not need a custom rifle to be competitive and once again, bloop tubes, barrel tuners and custom barrels proved to be ineffective with the no more value then a lucky rabbits foot key chain' with the exception of John Howard who is now running a Lilja.

Once again Leanne proved to be unstoppable, I hope this Bruno Shane is re barreling is on par with my Anschutz if not better because I don't intend to surrender that old rifle to Leanne.

Benchrest was the most contested event with a total of 20 shooters competing, in total I estimate 40-45 shooters competed across the 3 disciplines being Prone, Sporter & Benchrest.

Now for the results.

A grade bench rest was taken out individually by shooters from Sutherland Shire Small bore Club.

Leanne Wyborn 1st. 598.48 (Sutherland}

Leanne and I were using the old clunker.

Sean Ambrose 2nd. 598.43 (Sutherland}

John Howard 3rd 597.42 (Sutherland) Anschutz 20 series, Lilja barrel.

Bill Collaris 4rth 596.45 (Woollahra) Feinwerkbau

Grant Manning 5th 596.43 (Woollahra) Feinwerkbau

D. Larsen 6th 596.43 (Woollahra) Feinwerkbau

Joy Kidd 7th 594.45 (North Rocks) (Custom barrel, Lilja? Barrel tuner)

Clint Short 8th 593.43 (North Rocks) Lilja Barrel, Annie 54, certain was using a BT.

Ron Goulding 9th 582.24 (North Rocks) Ishmash, barrel tuner & bloop tube.

Anyone from Sutherland interested in joining the Sutheralnd Shire Small Bore Association can PM me for details, I would also encourage those that have Small Bore Clubs in their regions to join them because once they have been closed it will be almost impossible to have them resurrected.

I will post the remaining results when they become available.

Regards

Sean

Well done to all the winners.

Sean there seems to be a few good names out of the top 10, can you tell me if Simone Collaris and Peter Armstrong shot.

Conditions must have been tough for Bill to drop 4 points on his home range. I wish I could have come down, the only time I have shot a comp like this I shot 600 clean and was only good enough for third, next time.

I hope you and Leanne are shooting RBA events this year would be good to meet.

G'day Brett,

Yes, the conditions were pretty hard to gauge, Bill actually said to me that "there was no home town advantage today as these conditions are not the usual" and I almost screwed my final card, my first two sighters on my final card drifted to 10 O'clock in the eight ring and I was uncertain as to whether the wind had set in or was gusting fortunately I managed to muster enough patience to wait.

I also left the cleaning rod at home (I have this habit of pushing patches through the rifle when it least needs it and have a tendency to get bitten at least a dozen times before I learn as the rifle shoots better fouled).

I know that Simone definitely wasn't there and I am almost certain that Peter Armstrong wasn't there either.

Leanne and I intend to begin shooting the RBA matches. I think the State title is coming up also and will be held at Cecil Park. It would be good to see you there.

Regards

Sean

Thanks Sean, sometimes good things come to those who wait. Last target I shot at woolahra, it had been a windy day, the wind dropped off and I shot the 25 diagrams of a RBA card in under 9 minutes in dead calm that lasted about 2 minutes longer. I shot my best ever card of 249.

State RBA is at Woolahra, Nationals in Novemeber at Cecil Park.

G'day Kenny,

Thanks for the support, yes, it is a little hard at times to sun yourself in the shadow of others, however I view it on the basis of strategics as the more women in the sport competing the harder it becomes for the anti-gun loonies to paint the fraternity as a macho club of alpha males.

I would encourage more of it.

Regards
