Hi All

Well as the bits come together for my fly rifle using JR's ingredients I am about to start looking for the scope and was just wondering what reitcle most have in their Nightforce scopes for shooting LR.

Also any reccomendations on where they can be purchased at a "good" price?

Mate, I use the NP-R2 reticle in my Nighthforce. I like the hold off points. I only ever change the elevation to suit the range, and then hold off for windage!

JR, I will absolutely take you up on that offer :D :D

Just name the day, time and brand!!

Oh and I don't think that they sell beers individually so we will have to have a couple 8)

Ackley, where abouts have you purchased your scopes from in the past? Here in Oz or imported?

All in Australia..

I got one from Elk's Hunting and Fishing for $1500 Bargain.. they wont sell one for that again.. and the other off Shane! I think Shane was $1550 by memory.

With Nightforce, to get them a bit cheaper I think the dealer has to buy 10 of them in one hit. Then they can be sold for the $1550 mark. I maybe wrong, but thats how I thought it worked!

The one from Elk's, when it came in I was told a very unreasonable price.. so I said I did not want it. They were then stuck with the scope, but told them I would only pay $1500 for it.. so I did! Lucky!

I dont think you will save much money importing one from the US!

Cheers

Pro Cal in Victoria is probably the best retailer to get a nightforce scope from, they were the most competitive by far. And Pete is very informative. Only problem is that Nightforce sent the wrong shipment of scopes in their last shipment so there is roughly a 6-8 week wait for the scopes.

I am picking up a 8-32*56 with the NP-R2 reticle $1580. It is going on top of my 22-250 Remington VSSF, can't wait to nuke some varmints with the rig.

If you want the NP-1 reticle it is 'roughly' an extra 4 week wait and $250

Al-Bow,

I think the reticle with the finest crosshairs may be the best :D

I have seen them priced up to $1800 so yup...shop around :D

Yeah Kenny, have been doing some shopping around and Shane's price is pretty much on par with all others I have gotten.

Interesting thing too is the prices I have gotten in Oz are cheaper than what I have been able to find one from the US by the time you do the exchange etc to get them here

Also going to get a chance to try the double dot on JR's biggun so it will be great to actually look through it on the range at a target.

My nightforce came from Pro-Cal too; Yep he is a mine of info (he built my 300wnotsoSM) and very good, just pricey on work, and he'll tell you so! Supply of scopes ans lots of other bits are good value and he's quick.
Blackpete, just give up; and you're NOT getting the trip out after a big Red either, so go p up a tree...

Ogre,

I would go a Weaver 36x, I think they bring around $700.

For a cheaper alternative a jap Tasco or Nikko 8-32x at around the $500 mark would do fine I reckon :D

I had a 36x Leupold for a while, and found it too hard to use in the heavy mirage we often get here. I often wished I could try it out on a nice grassy range in cool weather on a still day !
I'd be looking for a variable so as to be able to turn down the mirage factor. Somehow it doesn't seem as bad at lower power, even though the mirage is still there.
I've seen a lot of positive reviews from users of the Bushnell 4200 6-24x40 which can be had in couple of different reticles. But that was a couple of years ago, nowadays the Nightforce seems to rule in F Class and other disciplines where you really need a scope with repeatable adjustments. The question that always pops up is what to buy if a Nightforce is too expensive ?
From what I've seen on various forums it's either the Bushnell 4200, or Nikon Monarch, and there's a couple of others I can't recall right now..
