The Virginia 1000yd BR Club have indicated that they are more than willing to include the Australian results and some photos of our targets and prize winners on their club website.

IMO, this is a very gracious and generous offer by the Virginian club.

On a related note, the establishment of a genuine international relationship between Australian clubs and the IBS organisation and it's member clubs, can in my opinion, only benefit our LRBR community/members both now and in the future.

In addition to the co-operation and interest provided by the Canberra club and it's members ( Mick, Dave, Hans, Clem,Jim, Declan et,al), I would also like to especially thank and recognise Dave Purcell for the advice and support he provided during the organisation and establishment of this event.

Why do you think that the Virginians are so much better then the Aussies in this? Is it due to the shear number of competitors over there? Or is it that they have better gear and gunsmiths? Or they take it much more seriously then us Aussies do?

not trying to make excuses by any means, but in LRBR wherever it is held, in most cases the main reason for any disparity in results is due to the existing weather or conditions that competitors have to try and analyse, interpret and make allowances for in the timing and sequence of their shooting.

In my biased opinion, it is the challenge of dealing with difficulties such as this that makes IBS 1000yd BR so unique and satisfying.

However, it must also be acknowledged that the Americans do have a very established, talented and strong competitive club and member structure.

Hopefully, in Australia,in future events, we can aim ( no pun intended) to try to reduce or minimise the existing gap between the results that they are able to achieve and ours.

Ok but if its a postal does that mean it was shot all over Aus? At different shooting ranges and different days? If so why is the average of the top 5 so similar?

I dont think anyone expects Aus to beat an US club but the difference in light gun is almost 3 times the group size.

I would also expect that for the US guys access to a 1000yd range with benches is more accessible than we have. More time on the range can only help your skills in wind reading and load development. If only we had more ranges open during the week for Long range shooting.

the original idea or concept was to try and invite all australian 1000yd BR clubs to submit any results that were shot in accordance with the IBS blind shooting procedures for their May match and then these results would be compiled and tabulated for a comparison with the virginia club.

as events transpired, due to the townsville club being unable to access their range and the brisbane members apparently preferring not to be involved, it was therefore left to the canberra club and it's visitors to represent australia on this occasion.

in past years, the term "postal" evolved from the use of the mail system by clubs that were separated by considerable distances, to compare and contrast the results that their members achieved.

the idea or theme, being to try and encourage increased interest, participation, profile, fun and enjoyment etc. for events or disciplines that do not have set or designated state or national championships.

kjd as one of the participants, this was my 3rd 1000 yard benchrest shoot.I am by no means an expert in this event.The US guys are very good at it.They have a lot of experience and it is just possible that on the day they shot the weather conditions may have been different to ours.

It's a lot of fun,if at times a little frustrating.My first go at HG saw my second group get blown 44inches across the paper for a no group.
Good excuse for a proper HG as I used my little 6br in that.

I hope more people come along and have ago at it.

A few of us have been toying with the idea of getting down to Canberra for a practice and to fine tune some loads. Canberra is open during the week.

No worries fellas I was just wondering why the results were so different. Figuring they were shot at different times.

Yea, we did get a pretty crappy day weather wise.

Thinking that shoot needs to start running at about 3am when it's nice and still with a spotty on the targets.
