2nd New World Record = 1K Score!

Post by a.JR »

Boy something in the air over in the US at present..Ken Brucklacher shot a new World Record at 1000yd Benchrest at the Williamsport range in PA ,this weekend just gone..

This was a score record at 100.8x with a 3.137ins group ..

This was shot with all the wrong stuff according to some in the US and AUS.. Action is a Mauser(thats right) ,cartridge is a 300 Weatherby , bullet is 240 SMKs 30 cal, hell it probably weighs more than 30lbs too.... He has succeeded in busting the long standing PA group record on the same target .. Now for the uninitiated that 100.8X puts 8 of the 10 bullets inside a 3.0ins circle , congratulations Mr Brucklacher ,that will be there for a long time to come....JR..Jeff Rogers..ps ..ya can't score if it won't group! period!

Never underestimate the capabilities of an old Mauser. I contemplated purchasing an old Swede and having it rechambered to 6.5X47L.

Out of interest what model of Mauser was it? A Swede, Argentinian, Columbian or a Mark X?

Sean , don't quote me exactly, but the others that put a Mauser into the winners circle (Phillip Yott and wife) used a solid bottom large ring version, but it's still a Mouser .. Sorta makes you wonder what all the who ha is about BATS & Panda's& Vipers ..And without one on those small efficient modern cartridges (300We) .. The only thing that interests me is "What batch # were the 240s"??..JR..Jeff Rogers

Like you said it probably weighed 30 lbs plus. But then again what custom grade heavy gun wouldn't? No doubt they have put a bit of R&D into the rifle and the caliber to gain the goods and no doubt that old Mauser chambered in a hunting caliber would have been regarded as the under dog. Indeed, it makes a mockery of the Custom grade actions. Go the Mauser!

You can be certain that there will be sour grapes for some time. This may be off topic but is relevant. I recall when an Arab mare successfully took out Western pleasure in the States and when the Arabian Horses turn out to compete in the barrel racing the 'groupers' go into meltdown.

All the action name proves is that a good gun plumber can true anything ... was it a barrel blocked rifle (I suspect it was) in which case the action serves as a support for a trigger and carrier for a firing pin and not much else.
As for the 300 Weatherby, what is the 300 Ackley based on ???? perhaps that may mean something.
After all that its shooter skill.
Jeff stop baiting the newbies, you know full well what I am talking about too.

I am with you Dave, this rifle is most likely a blocked rig. A mauser, big ring or not, is not going to do the job with a 30 inch tube swung off it. The Yotts' used the Interarms Mark X action in barrel blocks with the view that they can extract any case with such a massive extractor. The heavy firing pin and long drop of the mauser is probably another benefit. The actions don't often even carry the scope, that is done with rails set off the blocks. All the action does is supply the pin and lock up as you stated.
Anyway, chalk up another one to the 300 Weatherby case and SMKs. Right bullet in the right case, the right barrel in a block and who cares what the action was? Shit i wished he used a Carcano, just to piss more people off!!.
Well done to Ken Brucklacher.

I just found out that it looks like Ken used a Lawton action and not a mauser (no difference in my mind) . Fuck me, now i will never get any peace from John McQ and Mr email, Bob M from Mackay. I wish it was a mauser, but John has one of those in a LR gun as well. FMD, we are never gunna hear the end of it.

Mate, mate, mate, 8 rnds in 3 in and a 3.137 in group you sure they just didn’t add a zero to 100 mtr (maybe a typo) As I struggle to get that
