Hi all

I thought that I would show you a couple of pictures of my latest stock that I just completed today. It will be used to bolt my tikka 223 into to allow me to do some practice and play in the short range arena at the local club.

Last weekend I made the V block and glued it in and this weekend I inlet the action and finished off the gel coat.

Tell us a bit more about that winged keel.??

The idea behind the wings is to widen the back of the stock to allow the rifle to run on top of the ears of the back bag with a small section of the butt running between the ears to track straight. This leaves the rifle more stable both in torque and when working the action. This is an idea the Tony Z started with and I have also incorporated it recently in my LR stock as a permanent design feature and not the aluminium that you can see on this stock.

I simply slotted the stock you see here and inserted the aluminium to get the same effect. If you have a look at the following thread you will see a couple of pictures of my LR stock design.

I like the idea of a V Block and the finish is spectacular.

that is one nice looking stock albow. i use to work in a firbeglass shop so i know how hard it is to make something that good looking

Hey Kenny, I have another one of these if you are interested or a nice LR stock with a 4" offset fore end...... maybe it will get the 7 mil to shoot a bit better

Damien, I actually find the gelcoat better to work with and finish off than the two pack car paint I have used in the past especially when you spray it on just needs a light 1200 then cut and polish.

id love to know how your making them and try one for myself, i keep looking at my firbeglass stock and think im doing repairs to corbonfirbe aircraft why cant i change this stock to sute me
do you get any pin holes in the gelcoat when you spray on then buff

I make the stocks a couple of different ways. My LR stock comes out of the mould gelcoated with a perfect finish on it however for this small stock I made the mould differently and do not get the perfect joint lines from the mould on the gel coat. As a result I make them out of straight glass and paint afterwards but this far more time consuming to do that way.

The first two I made have been done with two pack paint however this is the first one that I did with gel coat and the finish on this stock has no pin holes in it at all. This was also the way in which I made my original fibreglass plug for this stock as I bought a rough, raw fibreglass stock to work from and there is a thread somewhere that shows the before and after.

What are you filling the stock with ??
I presume that the stocks are soild thru the action area and hollow in the forened and butt to keep the weight down or am I missing something ???
Are you going to do a F Class friendly version of the offset with a 3" fore-end??

Hi Matt

I am going to be making a 3" version to suit F Class and will be looking to finalise the plug over the next few weeks so it should be ready in the near future.

As far as filler, on the short range ones in this thread I used a solid bedding area layup with foam filled fore end and butt. These then weigh in at around 1.1kg.

On the LR stocks that I have made they have been foam filled and do not have a solid bedding area as I use a glue in and they all have weighed in at around 960 grams. I do however have the ability to put a full solid bedding area into the stock or can mould a section into the stock to allow a vee block or barrel block to be inserted.

Once I have one ready to go I will let you know.
