New Target Stock
Re: New Target Stock
270
That looks pretty good. I take it that is some form of fiberglass that you have added to the sides by looking the mat / woven roving over the top. Was the original stock fiberglass or plastic? How do you plan on finishing it off?
Hope you green trimmed the bits sticking out around the tip of the fore end so you didn't have to grind it and get all itchy

Re: New Target Stock
You can take some of the credit for this on Al, your stock got me thinking
It is an HS Precision varmint stock as on the later HB Remingtons.
I built it up with surfboard foam and glassed over it.
I may flowcoat it, but more likely will paint it, took the photo while I was waiting for it to gel.
More photos to come, Im working on the barrel channel now.

Re: New Target Stock
better be careful 270....... you are starting down a very windy road
I was convinced to make my first stock by a bloke on this forum and now look where I'm at
Actually there is nothing better than making your own gear hope it all turns out well. Definitely give us some pictures as you progress and definitely of the finished product.

Re: New Target Stock
Opening up the barrel channel, you can see the aluminium chasis, this got 2 layers of woven rovings.
As for ever doing this again, I could have got a couple of high end imported stocks for what it would have cost at my normal hourly rate, and it is far from finished.

Re: New Target Stock
Hey 270 looking good.
It is amazing how many hours go into making a stock isn't it. I think my first one was 60hrs + to make a laminate timber one and I have probably spent atleast that many doing the plug for my new LR stock, then there was the mould to make, then the stock and finally finishing off. I would hate to know what it cost
How wide did you end up making the fore end? And I see that you offset the fore end too
Keep at it and before you know it you will be done and planning the next one

Re: New Target Stock
A handful of sinkers glued into the butt to help with balance, the rifle has a 28 inch Heavy Varmint barrel in 6BR.
Re: New Target Stock
The stock is done for the moment, it is still a bit rough and only primed, but I want to make sure it shoots before I make it pretty.
Shown in the photos is the new stock, the previous stock for this rifle which came off a Remington Police model, and an HS Precision Remington Varmint, which is identical to the new stock before it was modified.

Re: New Target Stock
Mate, you have done a bloody good job of working a factory stock into something very worth while. The offset is great for reducing torque, something that the 6BR may not show much of, but will also stem bag disruption during the bolt lift, another big plus.
Looks like some one is off to the range this weekend Let us know how it goes mate, we're all keen to hear about the results.

It works, couple of 200m groups, did most of my testing at 100, a couple of .25's, still struggling with vertical.

6BR, perfect conditions today, calm and overcast but had probs focusing at 200, kept drifting in and out, sure it was my eyes, not the scope.
