The new breed

Just a couple of pics of things to come for dedicated 1K and 600 Aus rifles.
300 Rednex (not Redneck) in a RBRPRE 1.5" diameter action with a Lilja 12 twist 30 inches long stretched with a 1.5"/1.25" 6060 tube and fitted with one of my 75% reduction brakes. Stock is incomplete and unfinished at this stage as the winged keel is yet to be fitted, but the forend is 3.5 inches wide with a 3/4 inch barrel channel offset. A 200 SMK or 208 Amax at over 3150 fps fired in a gun that has a little more recoil to that of a 6 BR and tracks like a train has to be experienced. Since the drop off in interest for Fly up here and the constraints of the associated rules, guns like this are in the works for a number of shooters as are a couple of HGs with rear adjustable rests. Don't view the last statement as a dig at the Fly rules as such, as i have had a lot of fun with the Fly over the years, but i believe i have already shot my last SOTY Fly so any rules changes in the future are of no concern to me. I will continue to shoot our club Fly matches for RnD for the 600 and 1K as i have done over the last year or so.
Accuracy during fireforming yesterday was very good and early load developement late today was in the .300" area at 200 yards for five shots. Again very impressive and certainly rivals any HG i have owned, but 200 yards means shit in the LR game, so next weekend at the 600 will give a better indication. The stretcher tube is doing the usual widening of the accuracy window with a 7 grain spread of powder weight before the group starts to climb up or down the barrel "flick". Those with tube guns will understand what i mean. Essentially the 200 SMK has a velocity window of 3050 to 3225 fps before the sine gets the group to climb sharply up or down. Still groups there, but just moves the MPI suddenly when the charge window is exceeded. Simply put, from 75 to 81 grains of H4831 will impact the SMK at close to the same place and still hold a group, very desireable when you have big swings in ambient temperature. So single loads of 75, 76, 77, 78, 79, 80 and 81 grains of powder will produce around a .7" group at 200 yards that looks like a little vertical slot, but 77, 78, and 79 will pile into a tiny hole and this is where i suspect i will end up. 78 grains of 4831, 200 SMK at around 3150 fps. H1000 and VV 560 are yet to be tried and more work needs to be done with the 208 Amax, but that will come sometime soon.
