Guys, i have to disagree here. A LR BR site will just segregate us even more from potential new shooters. I look at all the shooting sports as a pool that can create interest and respect for the different disciplines with a possibility of anyone gaining an interest in a new type of shoot. LR BR shooters are going to go to a site specific to them and a lot of other people are likely to pass right on by. From a pure marketing viewpoint, maximising a target audience is the objective. You want to sell a view or a product it must be exposed to the most number of people, not the least or lesser number.
I think this forum is just fine the way Keith has set it up now with all shooting sports having a free shake and the number of registered members on this forum gives the shooting sports a huge exposure advantage over a discipline specific forum. Who actually goes to the BR Bulletin site now? I went there recently to glean of info on 1K that i had never seen before so it could be posted here where it may get some more exposure.
There has been an expression i use quite often, "you can learn more and more about less and less, until you will eventually know everything about nothing". I used this quote often when refering to professional students in uni specialising in obscure feilds that are useless to anyone. But i think this quote may be applicable to a LR BR specific forum, not to us LR shooters, but those that don't shoot LR BR.
There is a very good lesson to be learned in discipline specific forums with what is going on on a forum dealing with FClass. Rule and more recently people manipulation by a particular clan in Victoria have led to polarised views about many issues aswell as implied boycotts of an upcoming match in Bendigo. Personally this group should be universally treated with the same disdain that they have treated the countries FS and FO shooters. Just today at an FClass match here in Townsville, the view from many shooters was that their products should be nationally boycotted. I would agree. We are a small community and bad PR gets around quickly. On an open shooting forum the blatant hold a gun to your head manipulation this lot does would be met by some deer shooter from NSW telling them to fuck off and pull your head in. AHN is a good forum for that sort of levelling stuff.
Anyway, my view is shoot specific forums are frought with hidden perils without a heavy handed moderator, who then gets blasted for stiffling democracy. Some-one is going to bring up an issue, i'll say something, he'll rebound, i'll return serve and we'll volley like this for days with the end result we'll hate each other and never go to respective shoots. Lose lose. I did this on the afore mentioned FClass forum with no regrets other than not telling that clan what i really think they should do with their products

Tony,
I agree that the current AV format is the best option, for basically the reasons you list, that being that this is inclusive and we all read everything about all forms of shooting rather than a more closed shop approach which makes people feel intimidated about entering a new forum.
I am sure we had this debate before when Keith changed the site to the current form and it was generally agreed that we like it like this. Thats MHO anyway.

G'Day a.JR,
I know we've had difference of opinions in the past, but I do think the guys are right, this probably is
THE LR BR forum of choice for aussie shooter. The BR Bulletin is mainly SR even if it has LR BR and F class but you've made AV the go to furum for LR BR.
I promise not to be too prickly towards you if you stop knocking SR BR and F class
Although, I'm pretty sure we can learn to live together if we mostly ignore each other
Cheerio Ned

Ok
People might have different opinions on this, but I feel the Ausvarminters is the website of choice. There is a lot of knowledge on this site. I also like that this site does not have a huge amount of postings of just crap.
A lot of the threads are useful, and I also feel this site is more generated towards great accuracy and top gear. I may only speak from myself, but I do not want to know about a Stevens rifle with a tasco.. period....
I agree that making a site just dedicated to LR would not be the best idea. This site more than accommodates this field.
I rarely post on another Aussie site because I feel there is a majority of users are not driven by the accuracy and top gear that is exhibited by this site.
I feel we have a great little community here, and would like to keep it to this level.
The Shooting Sports heading is more than enough for me.
Cheers

Hey Ned, have you made that steel chest plate and tin bucket for your noggin at Bendigo this weekend? Oh that's right, no-ones going to be there so you can't get shot
Mate, JR has got nothing against SR BR, except the secret handshake bit.

G'day from the silly old woob; my earlier view was to have a special section within AV; but after reading the comments since I'm reverting to leaving things as they are. BlackPete put me onto this place, and I'm staying here because I'm learning so much; the wealth of knowledge being FREELY passed on, with no BS egotrips, is the prime factor in my continuing involvement.
Keep it up fellas; this place would be the most informative site I can imagine.

G'Day a.JR,
I'll probably get flamed by you but you post sounds like you're going to take your bat and ball and go.
I've avoided ANY real comment over the recent months because it's just not worth it. However this last post demands some comment
So WHY oh WHY punish all other budding 500m/600yd/1000yd BR shooters and your sport you love by withholding advice & tech info?
It just DOES NOT make sense!
What about promoting your sport, encouraging new LR BR shooters?
It's the tech info that made your posts the best, it was only when you made inflammatory political statements on other shooting disciplines that got you undone.
The ball is in your court, I've called a truce and ignored your posts for forum peace, but you know me too
I'll take you to task you if you denegrate other shooting disciplines..............
So please dont do it and support your LR BR and encourage new shooters with advice, tips and tech info.
I may be one of your main critics but you definately have helped many shooters on this forum and I believe spite is not one of your vices. Think hard and support your LR BR

Umm.......
AJR, dont be a girl.... hate to say it but you've helped me too..... Your info is useless, I mean useful....... if not to me but others!
Have your say, forums are just that.. discussion, ideas, methods.... typing wars...... taking your ball and going home......... You cant bottle up that information for ever....
(just trying to kick a man whilst he's down)
Where is the old AJR???? You guys up there seen him?
Ned, no one likes a bully......
