26-11-06 Canberra 1000 yd BR report
Dave Purcell - sorry for the delay in responding.
6 shooters turned up to shoot 1000yds on Sunday.
Hans Hoitink, Clem Payne, Dave Groves, Jim Clifford, Scott Newport and myself.
The low numbers were quite surprising; maybe, the predicted hot weather and confusion on the dates were factors!
The conditions were typical for Canberra lately, not bad, not good, just challenging twisting and pulsing left to right with a range from approximately 3-15 knots.
Approximate results are as follows. The exact details will be on the website in time.
Heavy Gun ( 4 shooters)
Total Score - Dave Groves 178 Scott Newport 171 Hans Hoitink 166
Average Group – Dave Groves 17.75” Hans Hoitink 18.6” Scott Newport 18.7”
Smallest group Dave Groves approx 8.5ish”
Light Gun ( 5 shooters )
Total Score - Hans Hoitink 95.1 Jim Clifford 90.1 Dave Groves 88.1
Average Group- Jim Clifford 9.766” Hans Hoitink 10.398” dg 10.495”
Largest and Smallest groups - dg 15.7ish” & 5.304”
Due to the small numbers we were finished, fed and packed to leave by approx 1.30pm.
All had a very social and enjoyable day.
Additionally,it maybe of interest to some that, given the small numbers attending, there was plenty of time to socialise and chat. As a result of this, Dave Groves has indicated that all future results will show the mode of shooting style adopted by competitors on the day.
Dave to his credit, has actually introduced these changes in the results he has posted out. Thanks Dave!!!
There was also consensus that 1000yd BR in Australia needed consistency and simplicity in the manner in which 1000yd BR events were organised.
Ie. It should not be a problem if shooters elect to shoot blind or marked target and the rules/rifle specifications for either IBS or marked target should be clarified and consistently interpreted and administered across Australia.
Note
this report was prepared earlier in the week, but due to the gremlins in accessing the ausvarmint site it has only been possible to post today.
Because of this, some of this information maybe already known by many, but to some it may not.
Also it was prepared under the assumption that the actbenchrest site was dead in the water, but apparently to has come back to life with the latest Canberra and Brisbane results shown.
Unfortunately the mode of shooting style are not listed or differentiated.
By the numbers and scores, most in Brisbane would be happy with the participation and results achieved.
Are any Brisbane shooters available to comment on the conditions and happenings for the day?
cheers
