Re: New 600 yd range for Nth Qld
Good one JR. And a well done and many thanks to Bob Kennedy of the Ayr club. This is going to be a good alternate venue for us being only an hour away. Hopefully Mackay is not too far off either. Maybe Bob or John can give us an idea of a date later this year. Hint hint.

Re: New 600 yd range for Nth Qld
Today saw the fourth 600yd match for the Townsville shooters however due to the ongoing work as part of the upgrade we travelled to the Ayr Rifle range as mentioned above by JR.
Before I get into the results from the day I would like to say a big thankyou to the Burdekin club for letting us use their facilities and the general consensus from the shooters is that the range is a great facility and we look forward to possibly being able to use it for some of our shoots in the future.
The conditions were reasonably difficult with plenty of wind and dose of mirage thrown in for good measure too. The different range also presented some challenging conditions for the shooters to come to grips with which led to quite a number of great 4 shot groups which were let down with the fifth shot opening the group up. This being said there were still some good results achieved.
In HG there were two shooters and Tony Z won the day with a score of 199 and group agg of 3.434” followed by JR with a score of 196 and group agg of 3.802”.
In LG there were five shooters and the run down for score was Bob L – 189, albow – 188 and a tie for third between Eric G and Tony Z on 181. The results for group agg were first Bob L - 4.202”, Tony Z – 4.322” and third Eric G with 5.133”.
Following today’s match the 6 match agg results have not changed in LG from last time however JR improved on his 6 match score agg by bumping it up to 308.

I must pass on a well done to Alan and JR for organising and getting the flags and benches down to the Ayr club.
Heavy Gun was a real good shake down for Jeff and i for the up comming Iron Man in July. The 6.5x48.5 with the 99 grain flat base moly coated bullets in the 12 twist barrels, are just screaming out of the barrels with unbelievable accuracy and consistancy. Jeffs load is just awesome and it looks like the Duplex load thing (3500 fps+) is something i will have to do in the future. The other thing worth mentioning here is that the tuner i am using is very reliable and predictable, something i would never have predicted seven or eight years ago when i first played with them outside of a rimfire application. For those interested it is on the Calfee stopped muzzle principle but of the Henry Childs style of non adjustable taper barrel fit and weighs in at 15 ounces. Mine is glued on not hammer fit like those of Childs'.
LG was a case of four shots in tight and one flier for just about everyone. New range with new wind direction and pattern is something that i am sure we can overcome in the next few matches there.
