Can Sight in Affect Group Sizes?

Can your sight in setting affect group sizes?

Shoot a few groups this morning with the 223. Had scope set to zero at about 200m. Group sizes were pretty good (for a light barrel Brno hunting rifle) at an average 2.1" for 4 x 5 shot groups.

Shot a few at 100m with same scope setting, (hitting about 2" high at 100) and average for first 3 groups was 1.55". Thought about it a bit, then set zero at 100. Average for next 3 groups was 0.81".

Was it the change of zero setting that gave me smaller groups, or was it just masking a bad tecnique, ie canting the rifle slightly on the rest.

Rick,

Mate if you were sighting in, in that wind this morning you were a brave man

You are lucky I forgot to remind you about coming to Gowrie today.....jeezus...I shot a 6" group at 200yds

I don't think the zero has anything to do with group size unless your scope has a problem...what sort of groups did you get ..was the zero point changing ?

Not that much wind up here at 6.30am, pretty gusty by 10 tho. Thought it would end up like that so went and cut firewood.

Groups were ok. Holding zero ok, never had a problem with the scope before.
