On Saturday May 24 2008 Herveys Range Shooting Complex will be holding the Townsville 1000. This will be shot over 1000 yds at the IBS target. The winner of the event will take home $1000 cash.

Shoot details as follows;

Maximum weight of firearms inclusive of all attachments will be 10KG.
Rests and bipods as per FOpen, FStandard, Match Rifle, IBS/Australian 1000 and Fly rules. F Class shooters may shoot off their own portable benches. FClass and Match Rifle shooters may also shoot prone off the ground. Any and all can shoot off our cement benches if they choose to.

Target format will be the 1000yd IBS target and the match will be 2 x 10 shot targets to be aggregated for score only. Groups will not be taken into consideration and in the case of a tie, the winner will be decided by a countback of Xs, 10s, 9s etc. And in the event of there still being a tie, there will be a shoot off in the sudden death format.

Shooters will draw for bench number and detail and this will be followed until each shooter has shot, then after the halfway point and lunch, the next and final target is to be shot in the same order.

The firing procedure for each target will be a 6 minute marked sighter period of unlimited shots, followed within a minutes delay by a 10 minute record period of 10 shots. Shooters have the option of using either the marked or blind method of shooting for their record targets. This must be declared prior to their start time but can be changed at any time other than during the actual record time.

Personal wind flags can be used but the range will have all range NRA flags aswell as our own long range flags in place.

Start time will be 7.00 am for the sighting in period for those that need to get on paper at 1000 yds. Weight in will be held concurrently and the match proper will start at 9.00 am.

Notification of attendance prior would be welcomed and can be done through this forum or i can be emailed directly to wecattsv@yahoo.com.au. Nomination costs on the day will be $50.00 per shooter. Lunch and camping facilities will be available.

This event has been put on specifically to encourage cross shooting from a number of disciplines and associations. In doing so we have purposely excluded both the Heavy Guns and the group section of some of the other shoots as we have seen them to be a great deterant to others participation.
The winner of this event will have bragging rights over the other shooters for the period of one year at which time it will hopefully be held again. This is in no way to be interpreted as a case of proving anything other than that we can all meet at a combined match and should be clearly seen as an attempt to put more shooters bums in other matches in the future. There are a lot of guns that exist that along with their owners can participate in other types of shoots. Because of class and associaton rivalry, this does not often happen. So the organisers of this event have brought this match along to try and bridge that gap.

the townsville 1000, 1000.

by my rough reckoning, that's almost a million reasons why this shoot should not be missed???

another positive and unique example of north queensland shooting sport initiative.

hopefully it will attract interest and attendance from far and wide.

great stuff

cheers

hey Tony what a fantastic idea,
is there any chance of bringing the date closer to our ironman weekend so all the guys that have to travel a long way can just make the one trip.

John, i have spoken to Bruce Scott a couple of times since the initial posting here and things may change. It was muted that we join in with the TMRC for their big event in June but i have had so little positive feedback from all quarters that i doubt that this event will go ahead. So for me to persevere with a match that basicaly is only going to get the regular shooters, yourself and Bob included, and to be included in a cash cow sense for those that are travelling to another event, is going against what this shoot is supposed to be about. If it is going to be a cash cow, then they are going to have to come along because they want to try this type of shooting, and not just as an incidental. That may sound like a real fucked attitude but it is the 1K shooters that are putting up the money and running the show, all at a loss at this point, where some of them won't even get the opportunity to compete.
At the end of the day, if there is no feedback, and i can see no benefit down the line for all invoved, then the whole lot can go and get fucked. At this point i have not one FClass or TR/Match Rifle shooter suggest they will compete. So this is back to status quo at this time, and would not be sensible for us to go ahead. If i can't attract ten new shooters to try this, then it will not be going ahead.
Our new range is to be functional by September and that cash can go a long way to buying remote cameras and monitors for the new 1K line because there will be no pits as such. So spotting of shots has to be accomplished somehow and the Hawkes Ridge setup of using spotters and orange clay pidgeons has flies on it. At this time i see that as being much more important than sitting and waiting for someone to show up.
I haven't canned it as yet, but the probability is high. Our years calendar will be out soon so i will keep you posted.

After some deliberation with members of the 1K group and TMRC, i would like to let all know that the Townsville 1000 sheduled for 24 May will not take place.

I would like to formaly thank the NQRA, the TMRC, SSAA Townsville, Bruce Scott and John Lorimer for their assistance in trying to get this match off the ground.

There will be a match sheduled for that Sat morning which will be a club match to recover one already lost due to the range butts and target equipment installation time overrun. Also on the Sunday afternoon there will be our club 600 IBS match. All are welcome.
