What would you build IBS 600m BR - hypothetical
(Moved)
If you had a "spare" single shot modern target action with a 90mm loading port for IBS 600m BR, with a.308 Win bolt face.
1. Caliber
2. Barrel length and twist
3. Scope (within reason - a 1-1000 x 980 Schmidt and March etc. need not apply)
4. Why
Aaaannnnnnd GO!

Something on the 6br (dasher etc etc).
Nf br 12x42.
If you can read wind a bit you should be in the hunt.
Or a muzzle break on a big mother 7mm or 30.
Most have had there moment in the sun.
Seriously find the best projectiles available and build around them.
Cheers

I agree with macca. Pick a pill and work around it. I would now add powder to that as i have seen and gotten some sad stories on ADI from both FClass and LRBR.
As you know i am a statistics minded person so to my mind from both PRS and 600 IBS a 6 mil has to be the choice. As much as i hack spit to say it the Inbreds by Berger are producing very consistent results in both disciplines. So i would say 6mm using Inbreds at 3K fps at least. I would take the guess work out of it and run large rifle primers in the 6 Creedmoor to be sure bypassing the new Lap brass and using either existing Norma or Lap 22/250 cases. Barrel at least 28 long and a 1in 8.5 or possibly 9 twist if you get up over 3100 fps. Re 15 and 19 without question. Possibly 8208. And definitely use a brake.

Re: What would you build IBS 600m BR - hypothetical
Agree to a point.
If mirage is a big concern go to 24x I am basing this on keeping costs down but maintaining a scope that will provide reliable adjustment and reasonable quality optics.
Variables in the higher powers can be pricey if you want reasonable optics and good repeatable adjustment. If you can get an old 2nd hand NF cheap in 8-32 or 12-42 great. If there is a good quality variable option in cheap grab that.
Remember you are not looking for bullet holes just a reliable aim point.

Be easy 6br plain jane easy to load etc. Need to pull the finger out and use the improved swede which should give some a run if i do my bit. I would like to do a 6mm swede improved like TonyZ has talked about in the past but think i might need to bull a few barrels at a time lol.
Have fun picking....maybe a...ummm....308

I have an Omark action sitting in the gunsmiths at Griffith waiting to be turned into something for me to take to Narromine next year, I have been saving some bikkies for a match grade 25 cal barrel, and looking around for some match grade 25cal bullets, I have a couple of boxes of Lap 308 brass, its gunna be chambered for 25 Camel.

Except getting cases. I've just built a dasher. Fire forming 200 cases is expensive and wastes barrel life and there is special place in hell for the designers of the whidden hydro die.Glenn wrote:Dasher!

Getting a fire forming barrel cut with the same chamber reamer, plenty of shot out 6mm barrels out there!chappo555 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 13, 2017 3:16 pmExcept getting cases. I've just built a dasher. Ah yes the hydro die!
I have one for the Lap improved, took a fair bit to figure it out but once I did it worked quite well.
