Whats required for 500m fly?

Post by 17hmr »

does anyone have any info on what is required for the 500m fly? looking at doing some sort of comp shooting, one thats relaxed and not so "involved" for those not wanting to be. What equipment is needed etc.

Really depends. To be competitive you need a real bench gun with good optics and reliable wind flags. But basically, a rifle that is capable of grouping well at 500m, a decent scope, decent front and rear rests and not much else. A good sense of humour to laugh at the one outside the scoring area helps as well.

17hmr,

You need a centrefire rifle preferably with a heavy barrel, a scope in the 20 x range(something smaller will do in a pinch), a bi pod and a sock full of sand tied at one end ...

Anything after that is optional ...

You are in Canberra so come down to Majura for the Pro Cal Sat 22 Sept and just have a look ... meet some og the guys ... if you want to have a shot and see how you go.

If you can get there Friday afternoon before 4pm while the range is open for practice I will even let you have a shot of my 308 LG ...

cheers

17hmr whatever you do dont listen to rinso, he gets you there under the pretence of meeting some blokes and having fun burning some powder knowing full well it is highly likely to be the start of an addiction for which there is no cure
