Go the Retro Annie - Olympic/World Record Score

I have had a few comments passed recently regarding my 50m prone rifle.

It is a 1983 1813 Annie. Apparently, it is 'old school' and looks out of place next to the aluminium fancy pants stocks so favoured these days.

Anyhoo, Sergei Martynov of Belarus shot a 600 in the 50m Prone qualifiers, then a (very) impressive 105.5 in the final (a World Record) using a 1999 1911 Anschutz - there was one change between the 18xx and 19xx action & barrel - the 19xx have a swell on the end of the barrel which has the dovetails cut into it, rather than the block on the 18xx.

I will be suggesting to the fancy pants stock shooters that they might want to go retro too.

Oh, and Martynov also used ammunition of 1985 manufacture...

What ammo was he using. I didn't see any close up shots of ammo boxes but some of it looked like Eley 10x.

Well given it was from 1985 (according to a couple of news services that is) and he is/was from the old USSR I would guess it could be a Russian special but at that time Tenex was pretty much the only choice.

The images I have seen showed the ammo in an orange box like Tenex, that looks suspiciously like it is not the plastic Eley box but a cardboard box :-

I could be wrong, but it looks like an old Mosin Nagant sling

It kind of makes you wonder about custom barrels and the longevity and storage of ammunition...

It also makes you wonder why ammo manufacturers can't make the product "like they used to".

Although is is concerning that with near enough to 30 years of R&D time since then why doesn't every batch of premium ammo hit exactly the same P.O.I?

As for the sling, I might be but I have never seen one.
