Southern Cross 1000yd BR Rendezvous report

Post by dg »

Australian LRBR history was made on the Narromine Dubbo Rifle range yesterday with the hosting of the Inaugural Southern Cross 1000yd BR Rendezvous Match.

In addition to our regular attendees, we were extremely pleased to welcome the many competitors who travelled great distances to attend.

Narromine Dubbo Club members are very appreciative and humbled by the fact that competitors from Townsville, Melbourne, Southern NSW and the Hunter Valley were motivated to make the effort and to take the time at a very considerable personal cost, to attend a one day 1000yd BR match on a “cow paddock in the middle of nowhere”.

We would like to express our thanks to all who attended over the three days for the goodwill, assistance and co-operation that they provided.

New friendships were formed, old friendships renewed, who could ask for anything more? :D :D

Who knows, given sufficient interest and support, perhaps an annual Southern Cross 1000yd BR Championship is a possible option for the future????

photos of the weekend activities will be provided once I finish the unpacking the Mercedes-Benz.

cheers

Hi Dave

Have to agree it was a great couple of days and all of the Townsville blokes are already planning for the trip back next year.

It was good to see all the other people and put faces to names.

In regards to the effort that you personally and the ND club have put in to make this weekend a big success and a very enjoyable trip thankyou very much.

See you next year ;)

I think I can speak for all those who attended in saying that it was well worthwhile.
The event was well run and organised over all three days with the locals putting in every effort to make the visitors feel at home and welcome, although I dont think FNQ blokes have ever had to scrape the frost off their benches before using them before LOL.

A special thankyou from all involved to Mr Dave Goodridge who arranged the match, co ordinated proceedings throughout and found time to shoot as well. Congratulations on running a top event Mr Goodridge well done.

An annual event would be good but maybe in a different location, somewhere warmer perhaps.

To all my fellow competitors thanks for a good few days of renewing old friendships, making new friends, putting faces to names and some good shooting to boot.

Dave, I think i can speak for all the NQ guys in conveying a very well done and a big thanks to yourself, Peter Kay and all the organizers and members of the ND club involved in the coordination of this event. I think your club can now rest easy and dispel any reservations after seeing the overwhelming success of this event. No doubt it is going to be hard to get a seat because every single person that i spoke to indicated that they will be there next year. Especially if it evolves into a two day 1K event. So please write us all in for 2013.
It was great to catch up with the old faces and some of the names from this forum as well as seeing a multitude of ideas about stocks, bullets, barrels and actions of all makes trying to tame the relentless wind of this range at the FClass shoot on Saturday and again at the 1K on Sunday. I think we can all agree that the range won on Sunday. It may be a cow paddock in the middle of nowhere, but it is a great equalizer where no-one has an edge.

Again, thanks and well done. Lets' see what can happen at a two day event next year!!!

Below is a pic of one of the HG relays, from the front, Jack S, Ian D, Dave P, el Jacko and aJR.

alan, dave, grant and tony

thanks for the kind and positive comments.

the organisation for next year is well underway and at the moment we have close to 40 expressions of interest.

as was mentioned over the weekend, all going to plan, we should be able to include an extra detail which would allow 35 shooters to compete.

i will provide additional information as it becomes available.

cheers

Hi Dave,

3900 km in 5 days, worth every minute. I will be back next year, hopefully with a better prepared gun. I would like to compliment you on the seamless well structured organisation, I know how hard that is to put together. The group of guys at this shoot was fantastic, and please keep the caps going, they will become collectors items.

I can speak for all from Townsville, we had a great time, you better book us 8 spots for next year.

Great day, great company, a range to sort the men from the boys, couldn't ask for better.

Hi All, Finally back . got up the 4000ks with a visit to my son at the mine on the way .. A long way but well worth it , as the others said Dave G and his trusty crew did a super job , 30 shooters ,2 targets in both blind and marked ,well they never missed a beat ,great stuff ..Managed to warm up enough to get 2 reasonably good targets away and that made the trip home seem a lot more effortless .. It was great to get a chance at a range with the higher winds to see if i screwed up and i think it went not too bad as this dunger barrel i was forced to use did not have much better than the 7.0 that it shot in it.. Looks like the Team from up here are keen to travel again and there is another range within the state that we might visit in the near future to see how we go there.. Dave you can sign me up for next year as where ever we end up Narromine will be the 1st and the best imo.. 2 or 4 targets which ever you choose and this time i'm comin loaded for bear because i'm sure everyone else will be..JR.. Hi All , Be good if Dave can arrange some lighter weather for next year because that is for sure the highest wind gusts i have ever shot in .. We more get constant light left to right wind switches up here .. I have been going back over what i screwed up during the sighters and the record after getting home .. I pull out the the take home targets that Dave supplied and mentally go over the method and timing i employed during each target , it helps me to have the Air-conditioner on flat out and oscillating back and forth as well.. I think i can now come up with a better target next year with a bit of luck .. Great comp, thanks to all the competitors and helpers ..JR..Jeff Rogers
