hi Jeff while on the subject of getting new shooters into the sport you could use Mauser 98 actioned rifles also -- think of the number of rifles that use 98 style actions -- they come in all calibres , many suitable to long range shooting , and they don't cost a fortune --
we will see you in july for the Peter Short Mem shoot -- look out for the Mackay Mob -- we might fluke another good score or group again like last year --

I think where the problem lies is the range attendances or lack of the available range so people can get into the sport.
Alot of ranges out there to 300mtrs but past that not many unless they have some sort of set up to the side that they use if there are a few interested.
I would love to have a go at fly regularly but my club does not shoot it but they have an old bench set at 500mtrs out to one side but no-one uses it and it not a set distance on the calendar.
What im saying is you just cant go to most clubs and shoot long distance events.!!!
We have a little shoot on wednesday morns that we shoot whatever you want, but only up to 300mtrs.
There a re alot of shooters out there that would like to shoot fly but dont have the range to do it on, me included.
Anyway ,I have not told you anything you dont already know.
Regards
Damien Webb.

If you are interested in Fly, then your really do need to travel.

This is where the dedication comes in, if you love the sport... you travel. It would be nice to have a 500m with benches, but I am one of the unlucky ones also.

I enjoy the sport so much, that now the travelling does not worry me.

I would love to use my rifles more at the range but I live a conservative 45 mins away from belmont. so I totally agree that if there were more ranges then more people would be interested .... well I am an example.

aJR,

How many submissions in the Ausvarmit Postal so far ??

That was for basically any factory outfit shot at any match ... I have seen or heard of no one shooting at Canberra, Victoria or Sydney in this so far ... you have had 1 at TSV I think.

I will be at Batemans Bay next weekend where I expect to see no one shooting for the postal ... read into that what you will ???

I think you are flogging a dead horse with a new Omark class, if people wont shoot with a gun they already have I cant see them buying one even if its a $150 Omark.

I would love to see new shooters on the line and have said more than once that anyone who comes to a shoot will have all the help I can reasonably give, I have even offered people scopes and rests for the day but still did not get a starter

I admire your effort but am sad to say I think its a waste of your time ... Hope I am proved wrong.

cheers

I too think that there is very little chance of a Omark shoot.

The only thing I can do is stress to the people that are interested in the 500m Fly etc, just come along.. even once.. Just let us guys know that you are coming along, so you can get in with the crowd..

I feel that you guys maybe a little hesitant, and if you do shoot, dont be put off by a poor score or a missed shot. I would not expect a factory rifle to compete with a benchrest rig.. but I tell you I'd be happy as hell if one of you guys could put 5 rounds on the target!!!! That would be a feat in itself.

Batemans Bay is on the 9th and 10th. 9th Rimfire Fly, 10th centrefire Fly. Come along with or without a rifle!

I here there is a spare spot in Rinso's swag if you need a place to stay!! HA!!!

Cheers
