HAIR BEAR,

I only ever shot smallbore with an Anschutz Match 54 but did go ok. I also have an Anschutz 64 which is pretty good and would do the job.

cheers

I have found that the best way to get into any sport is to go along to a couple of events and have a good look at what everyone else is using. A pattern will usually emerge. It also depends upon how far do you want to go (dollars?) with this sport. An Anschutz match 54 is a good starting off point, and is just about entry level now. You will always find at the small bore clubs that there will be plenty of good quality secondhand outfits for sale, as shooters upgrade to the latest 2013's etc. You will also need the right sights and clothing. Have a good look around at actual matches before committing any funds.

HAIR BEAR being the president of the local smallbore club I cannot agree more with the advise Jimbo has given. Take your time, ask as many questions as you need and if possible try as many rifles you can.
I still shoot with my Match 54 with SK magazine and have shot several possibles this year with it.
As you are probably aware shooting will soak up as much money as you want to throw into it.

G'day ant

It isn't a dress code per se but clothing to help your shooting, jackets, gloves, shoes etc. Again take your time. Smallbore shooting can be as serious as you want it to be.
I don't want to appear brand blind but Anschutz are very good rifles

Interestingly form a differnt angle I agree. I have everthing but anshutz - though I am not a real comp shooter.

Ther also appears less tuning to do on Anshutz which is an advantage when starting off
