Hey what is the general consensus.....................................................(this is directed at the straight jacket wearing rimfire crowd) on the left port right bolt,is there any real advantage in having a loading port on the left hand side of the action with regards to rimfre shooting.
I have always wanted a RBLP Custom actioned rimfire and have had the pleasure of using a couple and other than being different to the norm have found that with my style of shooting really doesnt off much if any advantage........................what say the rest of you lunatics ,what do you prefer and why.

I know what you mean Ned...........................................will be RBRP for me I am pretty certain,I am a bag squeezer(just ask my wife ) and find that it seems eazier to manipulate the bolt and also feed from the right as well...........................................yet every man and his dog seems hell bent if given the choice to have a LHS loading port.

if your a RH shooter off a bench/prone with a bipod/rest consider a LBLP, as a lefty I just love shooting a pure RBRP rifle.

Think about it, your trigger hand NEVER leaves the pistol grip and you have the port on the "proper side".....very fast and smooth.

I myself recently came to this path although not for a rimfire and after much deliberation with myself have since opted on a RBLP for a Stiller Python Magnum build.

Being somewhat of a traditionalist I had envisaged RBRP, however, taking into consideration like Ned has articulated LBLP allows the shooter to retain his hand and finger on the trigger I can see the merit in such function-unfortunately I like you am a 'bag squeezer' and until they start putting more shit into the water supply that will ensure we mutate and grow another arm it will not matter much at all for us bag squeezers which side our bolts are worked nor which side our rounds are fed and ejected from.

In regard to rimfire, Walther make a very nice action or used to with a large open port that allows the round to be fed directly with either the left or right hand and with the right set of rings this does not hinder the loading of the round.

My Take on this is, Left port helps me, it took about 30min to get used to.
Why

I like my RF actions to be as stiff as possible, and a really big loading port cut out weakons the action, so the smaller the better.
But when the loading port is small Rimfires are a tough to feed some times. When feeding my Hall I like to push the round at least half its length into the chamber.
With a left port for a right hand shooter the port is directly in front of you no more then 30cm away, it is very easy to see exactly what is going on. You never half close the bolt on a round that did not feed correctly.

Do you Factory right port people ever get a round not loading properly, ever dropped one in backwards. Maybe its just me and my fat fingers but I used to have trouble 2 or 3 times a match, its breaks concerntration and bad for technique.

My wife and I each have one Walther and one Anschutz 64 based custom rim-fires. The port on the 64's have has been cut down on the LHS to be similar to the Walther to allow left loading. Two reasons for this. Firstly it brings things in to line with the way most of our centre-fires are set up, but more importantly it has the fresh rounds on the LHS and the empties to the right instead of the little buggers getting all mixed together on the RHS.

I bought a RBLP for F-Class and after using it I wish all my rifles were RBLP including my Annie 64-MPR. But they're not

I shoot RBRP in F-Class and I'm a lefty, I'll be sticking with it for custom rifles as well.

I'm also noticing that a lot of other lefties do the same.. we all reckon its an advantage.

My competition rimfire has a Hall action RBLP.
Like Brett, it took me less than an hour to get used to it.

In fact, as a right hander, I like the idea of the left port so that I can actually see the chamber and thus am able to load fresh rounds without a problem. With the Hall one must be somewhat precise in getting them in.

G'day All,
as a lefty, I've just used my first ever LBRP (other than BR) in F class and it works exceedingly well. I had my doubts, thinking i'd go back to a RBRP for F class, but now I'm convinced any shooting off a rest with a sandbag, bench or prone they work reeeeeeaaaaaallllll good!

FWIW, Vicpolice & emergency services games, 3/5/600yds, 59/58/58 = 175/180 cant remeber the centres but there were a few.............
