Hi All , With recent banter about scopes i thought i would add a pic of my preference and WHY.I bought a 12x42 DD Nightforce in 1997 ,it's been solidly used all year every year since then at 500met /600 yd / 1000yd benchrest..Add also that i'm still using the same unit... I'm a winder ,i hold off very little ,so for 14 years it's been seesawing across left and right on the windage pretty much each month ..In 2005 i sent the scope back to the US with a note that i wanted it serviced and returned to As new during the xmas break ..At no time did the NF people ask if i was the original owner or where i purchased it , they just replaced some parts and returned the scope to AUST free of any charges including the freight .. Now i did not ask for it to be done for free as i figured i already had a bunch of use and quite frankly expected a bill before they sent it back .. In something like 4 weeks it came back brand new again and i just used it some 5years on to gain my best ever year ,results wise at my chosen sport of 1000yd Benchrest .. Included is a pic of the box it came in all those years ago , might pay to remember what it looks like if ya ever buy a new scope.. JR.. I hope it was in better condition than the box that Jeff's Nightforce came in.

Will they do so if done today though? Got a feeling export permits for scopes may now be a US State Dept requirement ... even on warranty stuff.

Should be able to be handled by Lightforce Aust.
Then you don't have to worry about the paperwork

Just guessing here but i reckon if i sent it back today there would be no change to their policy .. Box has moved from pillar to post over time ,guess it should look like the box john mentioned ,a little second hand that is .Probably send it back after the 2011 season for another service,would not concern me in the least if i got a repair bill as i only paid $1000 (tax exempt) all that time ago .. Hell i spent less on this whole outfit than some spend on a basic bare Light Gun from some of the in crowd retail outlets, get to keep my targets too, gotta like that..JR..Jeff Rogers. ..no probs sending my Nightforce in or out of AUS for repairs

I have to agree with Jeff. Not only is Nightforce an excellent product that fills it's design intent but the warranty back-up is second to none. Furthemore, the parent company (Lightforce) is Australian owned!!!! Yes that's right - Lightforce USA is a subsidiary of Lightforce Australia. All warranty concerns are dealt with by the Australian head office in Adelaide. In the event that you experience a problem and have contacted Lightforce then all you need do is send your scope to Adelaide - they do the rest for you (that is, ship it to and from their US facility where all service work is done). OK, I will admit that as a dealer I am biased but the above are the plain facts, and should our national pride not make us lean toward products from an Australian owned company?

Sure is a great product , spoke to NF in the States this morning , no problems about shipping the scope straight back to me in AUS.. Unless i whinge about it's performance there will be a charge for the service , but hell with what i'm saving over the 4 grand for the other brand if you bloody Victorians ever got a 1000br match going i could easily afford to come down and see how far i get my arse kicked by.. That's interesting as Leupold is being a bit more evasive about it, wanting my scope to go through the local importer. A few in Canada on other forums are suggesting they're experiencing tightening of restrictions on scope exports from the USA to Canada and its not brand relevant.

From what I can gather from exporters in the USA, they have been visited and audited by the Dept of Homeland Security (isn't that a wonderful title!) and have been told in no uncertain manner that all exports from the USA will be done in a proper manner with full paperwork and bullshit that goes with it. Failure to do this will result in huge fines, loss of licence, and apparently they can prosecute under the Anti Terrorism Act, which really is serious stuff. That's jail time in the most serious cases.

No wonder many of them won't even send a set of scope rings out here now, without all the paper trail being in place.

So...if you really want something, then be prepared to play their games and follow the instructions.

Nightforce maybe the goods in the warranty department, But lightforce Aus are sure not quick moving, i brought a NF scope (BR 8-32x56), the illum was playing up from new, i rang Steve at lightforce an he had a courier come pick my scope up and off it went, after 8 weeks i rang steve to enquire about the status of my scope, it was still sitting in Adelaide, he did send me a loaner scope while mine is away but its been away for about 4months now an i have not seen it?. The plus side is the scope they sent me is a 12-42 NXS so its not a bad scope to have in the mean time.

The reason for my extended phone call to Nightforce in the US this morning was to ask exactly if there was any restrictions on THEM sending me a scope back to AUS after it had been repaired .. The guy on the other end went and checked the nity gritty end of the management and returned with the verdict of yes they CAN send me a scope back direct.. Seems some outfits cry wolf in the states and elsewhere and would like to say they are the only ones that can handle things ,but Nightforce was eager to help and seemed genuinely interested in the results i have been able to post here in Australia at 1K benchrest, guess they like their product winning matchs also , another reason to use this brand IMO..JR..Jeff Rogers
